Here's another NZRB eye opener for you to ponder...

how this could happen. As has been well documented the relic that is called a new betting platform (word on the street is it might be new but the software which the NZRB don't actually own is in fact 20 years old) cost around $50 million to a struggling industry with bank loans already around $25 million. Pre the relic platform the NZRB's own developed system 'Jetbet' handled tote and fixed odds betting but surprise well to me anyway to wake up and realise that this new and wonderful betting platform can't handle or perform tote betting. So now you have two systems to service, maintain and employ separate companies and staff for your wagering requirements.

So now the Industry can add to that $50,000,000 relic's cost and $17,000,000 a year to service and maintain all the costs to run, maintain and service Jetbet to deliver tote betting returns to a struggling industry.

When Jetbet came on the scene developed by the TAB 30 plus years ago it delivered tote and fixed odds betting and was that good wagering companies came from around the world to view its operations as it was a revelation in the wagering world. No surprise to see that it happened in in little old NZ as they were the first to in the world to create an actual automated tote system. Rather than put the NZRB's faith in their computer experts they instead source a betting platform which only does half the job of the old system. %$#^ me how did it happen? Oh that's right nil and clueless management unaware that they actually could have saved millions and produced in house a better all in one betting platform than what they already had.

Can  someone please send me a link where the CEO informed the Industry that although they would have a new betting Platform they would operate now with not one but two betting platforms one for tote and one for fixed odds betting. Strangely enough I can't find any reference to this fact. Oh well at least the old and wise saying is two works better than one ha ha.

Oh good to see a GM and the GM and manager who sold the relic to a clueless CEO are off and gone to Ireland on behalf of a struggling Industry to visit the Company who sold them the lemon of a relic.

I read it Ohokaman and yes not hard not to weep. Good to reflect back though to realise once again just how much utter bullshit that the current CEO (yes bizarre but still current) fed to the Industry. Kept in the dark and fed plenty of bullshit  you think he was in charge of a mushroom industry not a racing one.

Quote

How dumb can one can one be quoting figures like that. Reap up to $19 million in profits annually (well it won't be doing that) but the CEO failed to mention it will cost $17 million a year to service and maintain. Not the brightest boy around is he although someone obviously disagrees by having him placed on a working Group to turn the Industry's fortunes around.  He could really help by resigning that would in my opinion be the only truly worthwhile contribution he is worthy of making. Someone needs to send that media release to RITA so they can wake up and realise you added a liability to your working group not an investment

You just couldn't make it up what goes on in the Racing Industry. When the shit hits the fan and the true situation comes to the Industry's light before its truly 'Lights Out" just how bad a situation the Industry is in and they then go cap in hand to the Government once again don't expect the Government to bail them out as the NZ tax payers will be saying enough is enough these clowns can't get their house in order even when having had some serious tax breaks in the past to get them back on track. You don't keep pumping money into a sinking ship you scrap it to try and salvage something to  back to put into another needed area to benefit the Country.

The Breeders will breed they will just have to sell all foals overseas, the punters can punt on overseas races on a reliable and practical web-sites and you will still be able to watch live racing on the net. Basically the NZ TAB has run its course and its time to close it down as it has become a liability.  Racing Clubs can have a great farewell party with money gained from the sale of their tracks.

The biggest losers will be NZ Sporting Codes but they can set-up their own betting agency so all is well.

Problem of the Industry solved easily, RITA can thank me later.

Lights Out,

Fixed odds came in more than 10 years after JetBet was introduced in early eighties. In early 2000's JetBet had a major overhaul  costing somewhere $8M.

To say the whole system was totally obsolete was a bit misleading as the website had nothing to do with the backend. In fact the world wide web wasn't even thought of when Jetbet came along. The TAB website obviously had a lot of time and expense put into it. The javascript routines processing the customer interface totally separate to the backend. Most of those routines are missing in the OpenBet disaster.  Therefore a solution should have been firstly replace the backend. That would hardly have cost more than a couple of million.

OpenBet plain and simple is not a parimutuel supplier. Their lack of expertise is clearly shown. So now looks like another $10M has to be spent for tote betting.

Confusion, ignorance, egotism, naivety can be plainly summed up John Allen was/is stupid.
