I haven’t been betting seriously for over a year now, and despite the best efforts of The TAB, I’ve decided that I miss the Saturday punt. Problem is, that I don’t want to be chucking cash all over the show - I need some accountability. So each Saturday, I will post what I’m doing, and take the slings and arrows from those better informed than I.

Please also feel free to join in!

R2 Te Rapa Mediterranean Star. Each way. 2nd up specialist with the blinkers going on, just as they did last time he was 2nd up. Astute trainer, good jockey, good draw

Lessons re-learned - don’t bet on bog tracks. I just wanted to have a throw at Trentham, because for some reason it’s my favourite winter track. But that’s no reason to have a bet.

Ringerdingding was disappointing. He won the G3 Carbine after a run against the older horses, and they were following the same pattern here. In hindsight, the winner is a very good beast.

Italian Lover, down in the weights and travelling from Marton, looked a good bet. I chose to bet in the race rather than finding the horse first - medium field, a lot of exposed form, betable race

Grey Lion looked like he’d finally found his European form and was unbeaten since pairing with O’Hara, 2400m no problem. Just beaten by a better one.

regal Rock at Trentham, dropping in class from an open on a heavy 10 on the course. Should have been in the mix, wasn’t too enamoured with the ride from Parkes.

Really thought I’d found one in Mediterranean Star, but obviously not good enough on the day. Looked to have every opportunity from a good ride.

My each-ways yielded $22 profit, but I’d also put a $20 place all-up, and an ‘any 4’ multi for $20 - so an $18 loss on the day.

Still just kicking around in smalls, but there’s some very bettable races at Ruakaka today.

Matt Cameron in Dragon Storm, drawn to get a lovely trip and in form.

Killarney’s the class horse on top of the ground, nice draw, and gets the claim.

Stilton looks the class and will enjoy the step up in distance.

Rikki Tikki Tavi back to 1200, on top of the ground, blinkers on.

Von Trapp is probably my weak link, but he’s back at the scene of his only win, drawn well, and has any amount of ability.

Ok, play-time over, Dragon Storm was a great run and ride, after missing the jump.

Stilton (follow) and Rikki Tikki Tavi couldn't make up enough ground three out on a day you had to be on the rails all day.

Killarney couldn't raise a gallop, and Von Trapp won't get any more of mine.

Lessons re-learned, Ruakaka... (just don't), and don't bet on short-priced horses to turn their form around. Drop the multi (it's hard enough picking one winner). Less bets.

On to next week.

ps - for the record, I had a sneaky each-way on Sampson, so it wasn't a complete was-out.

Just back Gibbs/Bradley runners there Cat and you won't go far wrong particularly with Cameron/Lammas riding....:rcfe-like:

I knew that, and ignored it O'man. Ah well, as they say 'it is better to have bet and lost, than to have never bet at all' - no, hang on, that's not right...

Sulieman is R6 Cat. Like Trueman today with blinkers on.

I cut and paste that right off my transaction page O’man. I see the TAB has corrected it now.

Good run by Battle Time. Wish I’d backed him the win!!

Funny old races Cat....horses that like wet tracks just not handling it. Have a look at Suliemans run.....

Interesting how he keeps looking flat as a pancake when the tempo increases around the 600, same at Ellerslie. The difference at Tauranga was the bias nearer the rail, can’t work out why jockeys looked to track wide when it clearly wasn’t the thing to do all day??

Hungover and a bit to do today. So I’m on short priced runners and no multi.

Gruff, track bias seems the same today. Be on the rails. Just seen the Collet favourite get rolled and not making ground down the outside.

Got a bit busy last week, but I was one short priced winner from two bets. So net very little.

This week I’m on the nose of the Kipling girl. A good run last time out and she meets red cayenne 3.5kg better off and should appreciate a better track. Only time At Ruakaka she finished right in behind the placegetters, never really getting clear.

Coleman on board and I am also. $50 @ 10s
