I will say what has been said many times before, Queens Birthday Weekend Racing is boring,

Another bad decision made when the Northerns were put back on the Calendar, know one oncourse, it was traditional racing once upon a time.

I know the decision was made years ago before the current officials were in charge, no offence to you Paul Wilcox.

The calendar of yesteryear was fine, changes made for the better, far from it!

It's a public holiday ,so racing should be popular especially as beaches and picnics not so popular in June.

Would be interesting to know what percentage of the Auckland population even knew the races were on.

Maybe a visit to the casino Friday and Saturday evening with free entry tickets and a handful of drink vouchers each might have got people keen...

Or maybe those races are just better patronised in a country location which has been proven to be the case on numerous occasions, I love Ellerslie and particularly the hill for the jumps races but  it doesn't need two meetings over QB weekend, the awful decisions made around the calendar defy belief.

Well the anti  racing folk sure knew about it.

As usual they were out on the busy road with their " Horse Racing Kills " signs.

As did all club members , all staff ,Board etc and horse owners in the dozens of syndicates and those who like a bet know Ellerslie was on.

These days the number of people prepared to give 5 to 8 hours to a day at the races including travel is seriously limited.

Even to see  some good  jumping races plus a few poor flat fields running for $10k.....a disgrace !

TV coverage ,now available on phones is now outstanding and easy to access ,ditto to have a bet.

Interest in say 4 -5 races takes about 20 mins from anywhere in the province.

Even live rugby faces the same challenges.

To me , BGP [ Boys Get Paid] is the most exciting/ progressive movement I've seen for a long time and they made the effort to attend Addington on Saturday at the Harness Jewels.

These are challenging times for Racing.

But thats it isn't it, its a TV based product in most cases so why not take that approach, racing does everything backwards imo

England v Pakistan
In-Play

Maybe racing has had it's day ....................

Cricket is not a good example to use, a long game with massive price variations  and the same money churned many times. Racing’s only real equivalent is the Melbourne Cup down this way.
