JackSprat 947 Report post Posted May 25, 2019 A good old claimer. He'll probably go around in them for another 2 or 3 years and earn regular money. Why couldn't it happen here? Because not enough owners here can bear the thought of putting a realistic value on their horses to populate the claiming pool in the first place, and god forbid it should be bought by someone who goes on to win races with it. New Zealand owners like to see their horses sold and win races overseas ... not sold across town and win races in front of them! Once in a blue moon a horse has listed with a claim in a regular race but not sure how it works as in the case of Art Union. (Think there was 20 + claims for him , ballot won by John Hay)
tim vince 985 Report post Posted May 26, 2019 I think a bit of everything but there seems no leadership or plan for horse longevity?
eljay 1,710 Report post Posted May 26, 2019 Claimers, Junior Driver Races, Amateur Driver Races, Monte's - just to name a few. When they introduced in NZ they are immediately pooh-pooh'd. Kiwi barb wire mentality certainly doesn't come into harness racing. Straight and narrow, tried and true, that's where we stand. And I thought variety was the spice of life! harewood
