Bob Jones on Israel Folau

MORE MEDIA HYPOCRISY

Sir Bob Jones · April 12, 2019 ·

Australian footballer Israel Folau, a devout Christian, quoting Corinthians, warned on social media that “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars and fornicators will end up in hell unless they repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him.” A number of questions arise.

First, these remarks are totally consistent with the Bible (and the Koran) so why the uproar?

Second, why did the critics, including the Prime Minister, solely complain about the reference to homosexuals? What about us drunks and fornicators? Doesn’t she care about our pain? We know the answer to that, namely unlike fairydom we’re not fashionable at the moment.

I can understand journalists concentration on homosexuals as few are whereas make no mistake, the vast majority I’ve known are drunks, adulterers, liars and fornicators to various degrees, so too heaps of MP’s.  A double-standard here methinks.

This whole episode is a classic pack-hunting media contrivance. I have difficulty believing a single drunk, fornicator, homosexual, adulterer or liar reading Israel’s remarks gave a damn. He’s entitled to express his religious beliefs as much as I for example am, to continue pursuing my life-long mockery of religion.

Mind you Israel should be careful here for he could be in for a shock when he reaches heaven and meets Jesus, at least if Hugh Montefiore, the former Bishop of Birmingham is correct. In 1967 Hugh, a respected academic, in a lecture to churchmen at Oxford University, suggested Jesus was a homosexual. Subsequently, numerous theists and scholars have put forward the same proposition.

So, when big strapping Israel finally meets Jesus in heaven, rather than the expected greeting it could be, “Ithwail, lovely to thee you.”

And here’s some more double-standards. Take the fuss when Brunei announced that henceforth homosexuals would be stoned to death, this consistent with the Koran. Well consider this passage from the Bible’s Leviticus. “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall be put to death…”.

And that’s the thing about Christianity. Its entire history has been making it up as you go and a high degree of selectivity as to what bits believers find convenient to subscribe to.

Israel deserves Christians’ admiration for his absolutism rather than picking and choosing what suits him. The downside is when he does finally bowl through the Pearly Gates, he might find heaven a rather lonely place. Far better to get stuck into a bit of fornicating and end up with the rest of us in Hell. It promises to be quite a fun place, putting aside the racket of non-stop screaming coming from Catholic clergy being boiled in vats.

i consider the rugby player quite the bold one... to come out and openly give the warning to us everyday Nz'ers

given his high profile position, it leaves him vulnerable to being criticized...

some things need to be said... and there is no easy way to tell the general public

his message is essentially repent and turn away from Sin...

the message is for every sinner!!! and not just a select few within society...

how times have changed.. where it is widely accepted practice within Nz, the act of homosexuality

....It should have been kept in the Closet and locked from ever becoming a Norm within Nz society.

I recall only one spiritual leader come out openly with their church in an effort to keep that door locked up!!

Bob Jones again:

April 17 at 7:06 AM ·

I wrote this story in The Australian newspaper regarding Rugby Australia's plan to sack Israel Folau:

The so-called Israel Folau affair, if we dismantle the humbug, can be summed up quite simply.

If the young man is not free to state his religious views, let alone Christian views, then we are all in trouble.

It would be helpful if people analysed what he said before condemning him to rugby oblivion.

He issued a warning to “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars,
fornicators, thieves, atheists, idolaters, hell awaits you, repent, only
Jesus saves”.

“Jesus Christ loves you and has given you time to turn away from your sin and come to him.”

For this he faces, it appears, the termination of his playing career.

Of course, the fools who run Australian Rugby, and I use the word
advisedly, because on so many other fronts, they have proven their
foolishness — are preaching breach of contract while at the same time
demonstrably being in breach of their own procedures.

Before
proclaiming Folau’s guilt, one would have thought he is entitled to the
deliberation of a tribunal. And perhaps, just perhaps, Israel might be
given a chance to defend himself.

No, none of that. We have read that his contract is to be ripped up and he will never play again.

And in an edict reminiscent of a Romanian or Soviet dictator, he has
been banned from joining his teammates in training and is not welcome at
team functions.

As former federal MP Wilson Tuckey wrote at the
weekend, “In the days of the Roman Empire, to stand up in public to
espouse your Christianity was most likely to result in a trip to the
Colosseum for a brief meeting with a couple of hungry lions for the
entertainment of the masses. The Israel Folau case indicates that little
has changed in today’s ‘progressive empire’.’’

Those arguing for
the prosecution of the young man preach about terms of his contract and
the “values of the game”. If the “values” of the game involve
censorship or, what’s worse, termination for articulating Christian
values that are as old as Christianity itself, then it is Rugby
Australia that needs to change not Folau.

Of course, Rugby
Australia wants to parade as guardians of morality yet this has got
nothing to do with morality and everything to do with money.

Qantas presumably has threatened to pull its sponsorship. It has played
this game before. The Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has tried this on in the
past.

He is entitled to his view even though, apparently, Israel
is not. But surely he cannot appropriate his view to the whole Qantas
family. Alan Joyce apparently does not agree with Israel, but there are
thousands in the Qantas family who do not agree with Alan Joyce.

Israel Folau is from a devoutly religious Polynesian family. He has not
sought to impose his views on anybody. He has merely repeated, as one
correspondent wrote at the weekend, “what his religion has held for
thousands of years. Whether you choose to believe it is up to you. And
if you don’t, then probably you don’t believe in hell either. I suspect
that had Folau been a Muslim stating exactly the same religious beliefs
that, in the unlikely event he was dismissed, it would have led to calls
of Islamophobia”.

We have come to the turning point in a long road.

This has been going on for too long and the whingers, the whiners and
the self-appointed victims have tried to shut people up on a variety of
fronts.

They have not succeeded in shutting up Israel Folau so the demand is for punishment, banishment and termination.

It’s interesting that the drunks and the liars and the thieves and the
fornicators and the atheists are not complaining. Those who are, are the
ones who expect tolerance towards themselves and their views but won’t
extend that tolerance to others.

And let’s face it. People who
differ in their views from Israel Folau, and there are many, have the
same opportunity as he has to put their views on social media; and are
free to criticise him. But they don’t want that. Minorities know that
in today’s world you can shut anyone up if you complain and whinge
loudly enough.

Here is a young man, a dedicated Christian
expressing a legitimate view based on biblical teaching and he has been
made a pariah.

Put simply, Christians around the world are under
siege. It appears that sanctions of the most draconian kind are now
being imposed on Christians here who dare to proclaim their faith.

It is interesting to note that Israel’s post was “liked” by several of his teammates.

Consistency has never been the long suit of the discredited
administrators of Australian rugby. But if they are to be consistent
here, they surely must sack his teammates.

But there are a lot of Pacific island players around the world, also deeply religious, who support Israel Folau.

Is not Qantas in partnership with a national airline whose government
imposes laws infinitely more damaging to homosexuals than Israel’s
utterance of his biblical beliefs?

But without the Qantas money, I hear it argued, rugby goes broke and Israel has destroyed the game.

This is fanciful nonsense.

Rugby Australia has proven unable to adequately manage the game and its
finances to such an extent that it now has to go cap in hand to Qantas
and, shamefully, do its bidding.

What is the old saying? We’ll jump, just tell us how high.

Interestingly, the federal government recently appointed an eminent
former High Court judge, Robert French, to investigate the denial of
free speech in universities.

Among other things, French argued
that the perception of a free speech crisis is enough to create a
chilling effect on the flow of ideas.

In a 300-page report, the
former High Court chief justice recommends that universities adopt a
model code that states that staff and students have a right to enjoy
freedom of speech.

Rugby Australia should adopt a similar model
code and be done with the hypocrites who demand tolerance and approval
which they won’t extend to others.

Not for the first time, Israel Folau has shown a rare degree of moral courage.

It is in this, even beyond his rugby skills, that the example lies for
young people who have been his supporters. Rugby has joined a battle in
the minds of the vast majority of the rugby public that it cannot win.

Compare and contrast: The behaviour that Aussie rugby accepts and rejects

by SB

1022.6666666666666x767__origin__0x0_Isra

Israel Folau is faced with the equivalent of a lifetime ban from professional sport if his contract is terminated. He is facing this extreme punishment because he published a social media post that contained his own summary of the Bible verse 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10.

Let’s contrast Folau’s behaviour with that of Australian rugby players who have NOT been punished with a lifetime ban from professional sport and who have NOT had their career destroyed. quote.

So, what did Folau NOT do? Well, he didn’t lay the boot into his heavily pregnant wife’s stomach, while she lay on the floor, cowering in the foetal position. Nor did he pick up his ex-girlfriend and hurl her into a garage door at 2am following an epic bender. Folau didn’t kick the livin’ bejesus out of an unconscious man lying in the gutter, outside a nightclub.

Folau hasn’t intentionally smashed an opponent’s jaw to smithereens, in a pre-meditated on-field incident. He didn’t gouge at an opponent player’s eyes, with all the fervour of a nine-year-old excising the last skerrick of ice cream from a four-litre tub. Not once has Folau reckoned upon sticking his index finger up opponents’ bums as being a red-hot, stealthy defensive strategy.

Folau hasn’t been caught on an iPhone, pants around his ankles and frolicking in the company of an unsuspecting mutt. Indeed, neither has he orchestrated the running of an illegal dog-fighting ring; possessed implements used to give electric shocks to thoroughbreds; or done anything else to raise the ire of the RSPCA.

Not even on one occasion has Folau been accused either of unlawfully distributing intimate videos without the consent of those filmed, or of mistreating women in any other way. Never has Folau been caught drink-driving; not even after having a 13-hour break from the schooners and thinking he’d be under 0.05. Folau hasn’t been charged with any crime.

Folau hasn’t racially abused his opponents; hectored at them as “monkeys”. He hasn’t sledged opponents as being “gypsy boys” who should contemplate retreating to their caravan homes.

Folau hasn’t manhandled referees, assaulted teammates and bashed them to a pulp, or stolen money from his fellow players’ wallets while they weren’t looking. Israel hasn’t been caught on video, bragging about his adoration of the “Bondi marching powder”; never once has he tested positive to using prohibited substances either in or out of competition.

Folau’s never placed bets on opposition teams to win, or lose. Folau hasn’t been caught red-handed, in the throes of orchestrated sports cheating, or scheming to rig the system. He hasn’t even chewed on “blood capsules” at the crucial point of a pivotal game, to stop time. Folau isn’t accused of standing over young and impressionable teammates; compelling them to dope, cheat, go to church or do anything else, with the threat of being expelled from the team if they refused.

Now had Folau done any of those things, then maybe he’d be assured of World Cup selection. Because with maybe one or two exceptions, the professional athletes who actually did do these things weren’t banned from their sport for life.

Instead, what Folau has done — the totality of his conduct — has been to publish material on his social media channels that’s been deemed as offensive and a high-level breach of Rugby Australia’s code of conduct. Keep this simple: Folau published some excerpts from Bible passages and his summaries of them. That’s as grave as it gets. end quote

Stuff

After reading that long list of examples of disgusting behaviour from other rugby players it couldn’t be clearer that Rugby Australia chief executive, Raelene Castle, and her organisation are treating Folau with contempt, and that his proposed punishment is completely unjust, imbalanced and out of all proportion to his alleged ‘crime’.

RA’s Code of Conduct requires that players not act in a way which brings Rugby Australia, the sport of rugby, or that player him or herself into disrepute or discredit and out of all the above players’ sins they decided that publishing a Bible verse was the top of the list.

The tribunal could have chosen a very different penalty to impose on Folau, such as a fine, but they chose the nuclear option instead. I don’t know about you, but to me, it feels very malicious.

The whole thing has created a mountain out of a molehill.

His original post included most people in life but one particular group jumped up and down led by the CEO of Qantas who wanted him sacked. From that we now have this situation and it will only get bigger and could well be played out for years.

I read where the ANZ is concerned over Mrs Folaus support for her husband.

Seems odd that the ANZ have suddenly developed ethics.

Were they not the bank that was found guilty of not advising farmers of the pitfalls of''swap rates''.

Were they not the bank given a kick in the bum from the RBNZ recently.

Don't they take about a billion each year in profits out of nz every year.

Didn't they buy a house for 10 million and sell it to Hisco's wife for 6 million.

A bank with ethics,f..k me what next.

Israel should be happy to spend his wealth fighting his Court battle, because Jesus says

"Truely I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:23.

And if you don't enter heaven that only leaves the place where all those homosexuals and fornicators are going. :rcfe-gay:

The Media’s Homophobic Lie

by SB

Israel Folau has been smeared repeatedly by the media as homophobic and his tweet has been deliberately mischaracterized as homophobic. They even described his speech in his home church as homophobic when it was anything but.

Those two lies, however, are not the biggest lies told by the media. The biggest lie has been their lie of omission. What if I were to tell you that they have chosen to omit a news story that would blow their accusation of homophobia right out of the water?

The man they keep smearing as homophobic allowed his image to be used to promote Gay Rugby’s biggest tournament. Yes, really.

Israel Folau along with Adam Ashley-Cooper helped promote the 2014 Bingham Cup gay rugby tournament.

Does that sound to you like the actions of a homophobic man?

[…] Wallabies star Israel Folau was once a poster boy for the world’s biggest gay rugby tournament.
Folau, wearing a tight white singlet, and fellow Wallabies player Adam Ashley-Cooper, donning a purple and pink t-shirt, appeared on the cover of the Star Observer, a magazine for Australia’s LGBTI community, under the headline: Big Boys And Their Balls.

They were helping promote the 2014 Bingham Cup, dubbed “the biennial world championships of gay and inclusive rugby”.

A Bingham Cup spokesman said at the time Folau was a “strong advocate for ending all forms of the discrimination in sport”.

So let me get this straight. Israel Folau not only promoted gay rugby, but he was also described as being a STRONG ADVOCATE for ending all forms of discrimination in the sport. His crime therefore, is not that he treats Gay people badly or that he discriminates against them (as clearly he is very supportive of them), but that he believes that all sinners (including gay sinners) need to repent in order to get into heaven.

The whole media beat up is a storm in a teacup that has been labelled a Category 5 hurricane.

Partly right Crusty, the Bank with the swaps issue was National Bank which ANZ  bought about 16 years ago. John Key showed that he was just another useless Tory PM turned Director with his spin  about David Hisco's demise and blaming some office junior for the Reserve Bank regulation stuff up.

Shit Ted when are you going to get an opinion of your own rather than cutting and pasting and then stating that you are right and soemone else is wrong? It just goes to show the character of this idiot Folau. He says that in his younger days he was a rooter and a piss head and then he supports Gays only to turn on the rooters, piss heads and gays  and say that they are heading to hell.
