Do we need to go back to less midweek race meetings. Racing is becoming a  bore with wall to wall racing its just like being married to the same partner for a time and you need to spice it up so its something to look forward to.

Yes We Do! :rcfe-like:  One Midweek meeting for each region per week

Absolutely shut down through the Winter and give the tracks a chance to recover.

Cut out some of the other racing, the rest of the time.

That will also help the tracks and there is the remedial work that isn’t being done in the current environment.

Problem solved, plus no need to waste 30 million on three all weather tracks and another 30 million over the next 10 years maintaining them, followed by another 30 million to replace them as that’s what will be required, assuming that the industry accepts them which I don’t believe the industry will, except for Pitman and Pike.

P.S. And during that period Pitman will be retired and Pike will be off, so what a bloody waste of more precious money!

Not sure about the retirement....!  but spot on with the rest,  I reckon.

Locally,  we have just had the FOURTH meeting at Riccarton SINCE the midsummer meeting [  end of Jan, early Feb, and the only Ricc meeting since Cup in Nov ]  where there used to be none....and Ashburton has stuck itself in there as well during that period.

Now we have the 'Autumn Series'  on its way - another four days - where there used to be Hororata at Riccarton [ an early 'rationalisation' ]  and then the 3 day Easter carnival....and that was it until the May meeting,  Hunt Club and then the National.....and people are wailing about small fields and low horse numbers..?  ffs,  how obvious can it be?

Reduce racedays,  and it might be a bit interesting..at the moment it is wall-to-wall boring....leave at least part of the winter to highweights and jumps,  and spend something  on repair and maintenance of a track or two,  as can be afforded.

And the woeful programming...ye gods...and the handicapping, ye gods again...

Or how about they just make better use of existing tracks, its the same old track all the time that are making the racing boring imho. Yet they are going out of their way to remove even more variety from the sport by taking away race dates etc, it's hard to fathom the thinking.

I can't believe the AW are even being contemplated , they are so poorly thought of by punters etc whats the point.

Sounds over the top but I tend to agree with you!

Everytime we get a wet winter everyone is suddenly dead keen on all weather tracks. Now everyone seems to have gone off them all of a sudden. Six months ago it was going to be the saviour of NZ racing. We were going to have Winston Peters Memorial All Weather Racetracks scattered all over the countryside

Why don't they look at using some of the tracks that they are trying to close for winter racing and as some say let the other tracks recover. You can't close down racing for any length of time it just doesn't work like that.
