THE TORCH

Stakes rewind.

Have just heard there may be trouble on the horizon with regards to stake money. Apparently we could be going back to the meagre levels of not so long ago in the new season.

Would be a ridiculous situation if true. I dont know of any racing organisation to return to stake levels of the past let alone in such quick time after the increases here. Makes a mockery of the $40 odd million spent on a new betting system (that never needed "fixing" - just more creativity and less greed). Perhaps the blame goes to the same morons who did the racing dates and have Wellington races 2 days after Otaki

Would be interested if anyone has information regarding the future of stake money.

Blimey , the stakes will double people might need to retract . It's a bugger as racing will nosedive . Hope it's wrong but cannot see how they cannot go down .

Stop trying to close small tracks to pinch a few hard earned pennies and sack the lot of these useless idiots in suits .

Exactly. Theyre experts of the contradiction. Lets keep Awapuni, Otaki, and Te Rapa open - three courses that are battling with their current workload. What happens when they have to take on the fixtures from Hawera, Stratford, Thames, etc??!! Lunatics with power.

Nothing but scaremongering.

When and where is this slated to happen ??

Who told you this garbage ?

Anyone important or was it just the local drunk down in the local Public Bar

Winston stopped race fields , this would be the logical conclusion , they only borrowed to prop up stakes until it was introduced . By stopping race fields he has let all management off the hook , they can't be blamed , their plan was never implemented because of him and his advisors  , they have a perfect excuse .

The drunk down at his local would still have more clues than you and NZTR combined.

Can you see them dropping their salaries to sustain the current levels, I don't think so!

aH HA Tried and proven formula. Sell to pay salary. Has kept Ellerslie going. Racing really needs to resurrect Bernie Madoff from USA for consultation. At least he kept his Ponzi scheme going for twenty years.
