Great ride to just get up on Melody Belle... Jamie Richards just keeps getting the big ones home...has a great team of staff around him ...Congrats to all concerned.

Not to mention the expensive cattle he has at his stable door. Very cool ride by Troy however.

Not sad in the slightest. Your post was about Troy apparently but suddenly it was about Jamie Richards. You need to keep a balanced perspective. It's all a bit like Waller , Godolphin and others. . Ingham gave Waller 60 blue bloods to get started and TO WALLER'S CREDIT he made the most of his opportunity.Gai Waterhouse inherited a dynasty and carried it on, with a clientele established by her father. Used to hear about that "self-made" man Robert Sangster who was worth 100s of millions. Bugger off, inherited Vernon's Pools from his father. Same with Jamie Richards,  a well-established, successful operation dropped in his lap and he is making the most of it. Good on him.He presents very professionally. The way some of you go on about the ABILITY of trainers who have unlimited resources is not keeping it balanced. There are dozens of participants in our industry who are champions, but don't have the luxury of infinite resources .

Not every trainer over the years  at Te Akau have done as well as  Jamie ,  with  exactly the  same resources  presented to them   ( by that don't mean Stephen Autridge or  Mark Walker  who are excellent trainers ).   It isn't automatic that they'll be really  successful even with top cattle to work with.

May have just been the victim of a bad year at Karaka?

Jamie Richards may or may not be a good "trainer" but at present , IMO, he is a mere pup, supported by his father Paul who fronts up at most meetings. We need to keep the accolades balanced. I would proffer the suggestion that if Lee Somervell, Ken Kelso, Noel Eales, Colin Jillings, Ray Verner were at the helm of Te Akau then the results would be the same, if not better.

And besides, racing is a fickle game, sometimes there is success, in spite of the trainer--remember Graham Henry against the French in the World Cup final. JMO

You still have to have the cattle and as the late TJ Smith once said, “There’s strength in numbers”. By the way, wasn’t Melody Belle a less than $50k purchase? Can’t see your point Chevy? D Weir was 60 ahead of 2nd in this year’s premiership in Vic prior to being given 4 years. As soon as he’s outed, the likes of Lee Freedman (disqualified doper), Plus other jealous trainers were puting the boot into Weir with comments reeling of sheer jealousy of Weirs success. 3 Jiggers in the bedroom and that’s the reason for his success? C’mon! Good selections at the sales and 500+ horses makes it an uneven playing field. He’s been crucified by the need to placate the looney leftish animal cruelty brigade. 4 years!!

Can't see my point? You've just answered your own enquiry with TJ's quote. Weir, Waterhouse, Waller, Godolphin all with 600-700 horse on their books--who do you think will win the premiership? Answer easy to find before the season even starts. It certainly will not be some incredible trainer from Gosford with 28 ponies in his barn.

if he/she is so incredible why have they only got 28 horses and why are they in Gosford?

Maybe they are brilliant trainers but not that  flash at or want to be  heading up a large organisation across a couple of states with hundreds of employees which is what those mentioned are . Some really good trainers here and in Aust that sweeten up rejects from HK or the big owners , they will never win a title though . Also to some extent it's right place right time right connections . Number of factors .

Te Akau clearly have a top system in place , and to be fair their employees always seem happy that's important .  It  has to be said they benefit from quite weak racing but that's not their fault  . It's the big fish small pond situation.

Sorry Chevy, but you made the comment regards the Troy Harris and I presume Melody Belle. She has proved to be inexpensive.

Chevy why do you have to be so negative... why cant you give the guy a wrap...he ha a huge responsibility to manage a huge string of horses and the stable is flying...its called a TEAM effort i would think ...right horse in the right race with the right prep with the right jockey on...it does not all happen on its own..no matter what cattle you have.

Scooby, like some others you need to re-enlist at school if you think the above is negative.
