NZ Cup Bets

Recommended Posts

Unusual for me but a few weeks back i had a potential brain fade when i attacked on 2 horses in ante post betting as i thought as value propositions they ticked boxes.

Both were for a place and things looked to be going sour when one broke at the start, ran 9th then bugger me is scratched after its prelim in its next start. AG Whitesocks at 6 plc looks to be a loser

The other was Tiger Tara who whilst slightly out of form was good enough to run placings behind Lazarus in previous events. Got him at 7's for a place, he comes out and brains Chicago Bull and is now paying 6's to win the cup. JJ's faith is semi restored so to speak even though there  is a long way to go and Purdon's horses are going to be tough

Anybody else had a bet yet or for that matter who do they like at this stage.

Wouldn't give up on the A G's Whitesocks one JJ. His run the night he finished ninth was very good after an early gallop. And last Sunday was a minor blip by all accounts.

I hope your right CP but in what looks to be one of the evenest cup's in years an interrupted preparation is the last thing you need.

Its 4/1 the field at the bookie i use which says it all

The Machete now at 4.80 F/O, way too short this far out and must surely pay more on the day when the once a year folk have a play.

PS Must give Mick the Mouth credit where its due with his comments about useless TAB and Sires stakes final odds. How anyone can play in that market when horses get added after each heat is beyond  belief

Not much value anywhere in that lot or is there something you fancy. Im picking TT will start longer on the day and given UM's last 2 runs 5/1 seems ridiculous

I wouldn’t be getting off Machete just yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if the vet examination he’s had finds  a valid reason for his lethargic run.  Just saying

I'm not saying it can't win but it's way unders based on current form

I would imagine most of them would be longer on the day. It's currently a 145% market with 23 runners and no refunds. On the day you can bet into a ~120% market with refunds for late scratchings. There isn't much water left to go under the bridge either so there shouldn't be any big moves you could miss out on, unless you happen to hear that one of the top few in the market is scratched before the TAB hear about it.

I'm not a big harness fan (Dream About Me in last year's Cup is probably my most recent bet on NZ harness), but if someone more knowledgeable than me tells me something is big overs I'll have a look. So I backed Chicago Bull to win at $26 when it was first added to the market and Mick Guerin was talking it up, and I've backed Alta Orlando and Forgotten Highway to place at $6.50 (now $3.90) and $7.50 respectively after they were mentioned as being rough chances in the buildup to Friday's race.

I'll probably back Dream About Me again on the day, just out of loyalty.

Dead right chiknsmack, all of them will pay more on the tote on the day.

Poor harness cousins, never seem to see a decent percentage on the fixed odds. TAB have stopped using the "you know the odds now beat them". Mainly because punters knew the odds and then invested offshore with better odds and bonus bets elsewhere.

For mine Ultimate Machete is just not cutting it this time in, first time in open class grade if you can call it that, although his trainers can never be underestimated.

Dream About Me is super consistent and if she doesn't get carted out of the race by a horse that shouldn't even be in the field again like last year, she's in with a real chance. Her and Tiger Tara are a cut above the opposition this year.

Wonder what Grimey thinks of that?

Don't think he'll be too concerned. Jonny drove the horse a lot when Grimey trained him. Pretty sure, off the top of my head, that Coxy might have been in the bike when he finished third in the NZ Derby behind Vincent and Ultimate Machete as Dexter drove Rakaupuka Ruler.

Ultimate Machete out of the Cup. Mark drives Cruz Bromac.

Very sound move to scratch, obviously has issues but they are hoping to run in FFA on Friday. So MP gets on Cruz. I do hope J Cox retains the EM drive as opposed to giving it to BO, will be an interesting call for AS team to make

think the big blue attack will be repelled by theTiger returning home.   Just look at his withering Vic cup win only 3 weeks ago. He ran a great field raggered including Chicago Bull and Franco Nelson in a 1.53.4 mr. for group 1 glory. (2240 mtrs)He is a Bettors Delight and is well experienced at Addington. He has a great record and although getting on in years retains the strength, speed and manners to win 13th nov.(IMHO):rcf-muted:

For mine, the mare is the best and safest bet in the race. She's been exceptional all season and her last run was her best.

No vices. Just a quality mare who looks like she'll be spot on for the day.

Agree A great place or trifecta fill but cannont run fast enough to compete with TT who is just going outstanding. Can stay an run off at 54 last half. How are they going to beat him. THEY CARNT !

I hope you and a few others are on the money with Tiger, after a bad Melbourne Cup day JJ needs some cash back:rcf-kiss-1:
