Stables 577 Report post Posted October 6, 2018 I see Harness Racing is introducing a new governance system, reducing their Executive to 5 people plus 2 outsiders. The organisations which represent the interests of the various stakeholders such as trainers and drivers, owners and breeders will no longer have representatives on the Executive. How will this new Executive be selected. Will every owner, trainer, breeder and driver have a vote. These are the people who have a real financial risk in this industry and are now being denied representation.

Stables 577 Report post Posted October 6, 2018 Why should the clubs be able to select the Executive, they have no financial commitment to the industry

Stables 577 Report post Posted October 7, 2018 The clubs are run by amateurs who have no real financial commitment to the industry and should therefore not have the ability to decide how it's run. Owners, trainers drivers and breeders do have a financial interest in the industry and in many cases this is considerable. I therefore believe that they should have the ability to vote for who they consider is best capable of of management of their industry. We are the shareholders and in any company the shareholders select the board. No taxation without representation
MalcolmH 40 Report post Posted October 7, 2018 There are natural flaws in this . The executive should be chosen by common vote by all members of the Harness Industry not just one section. This may be time consuming but it would appease most of the participants. If it is not done like this it will just become another "old boys" club whereby those with the money and the backing will get to dictate to everyone else. As for the clubs selecting the executive this is a joke. Yes the clubs should have an input but no bigger than anyone else. For this industry to survive it needs new blood and new direction and sadly you won't get this if you don't listen to the rank and file. For to long it has been all about those at the top with their snouts in the trough taking but giving sweet beggar all back. Time to think of everyone not just a select few!! frankie 119 Report post Posted October 7, 2018 Tim, the ATC should go it alone but only after the building mess is sorted and we get an intelligent board in place.

When you and Tim say "go it alone " what does that mean. Are you leaving HRNZ for example and running your own show including your own RIU etc
