Fartoomuch 1,376 Report post Posted September 30, 2018 Looks like it was a long night, more bloody awards than you can poke a stick at. Anyone know who the judges were??????
tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted September 30, 2018 Nothing wrong with once a year getting the hair done ,polishing the shoes etc and folk from all over NZ getting together to celebrate excellence in the Harness Industry. Plus recognising numerous achievements such as the Award to Ann and Steve Phillips. Most industries ,sports and businesses have Awards nights and for many it may be their only chance to sit in same room and chat to the 'bosses' ,leaders and high achievers. The judges ,I believe ,are several media folk and others very close to the action. In the past they have often announced the voting in the media ,from memory some 20 x votes. Similar length of night to the one previous which was a game of rugby ,which as you may realise has 27 minutes of action. A night at the trots also is similar....10 races @ 3 minutes each ! Most things are too long these days.....therein is the challenge ! The HNZR awards are only once a year , so not as if they are regular plus there was attendance from all corners of NZ...the Southland lass [E.Barron] was very impressive as was the Coaster who accepted Destiny Jones's award. Overall the night was more fun than most trotting meetings , more fun than visiting a TAB and much more fun than posting on Racecafe ! scooby3051

That's so sad about your visits to TAB and posts on RC. scooby3051
john legend 735 Report post Posted October 3, 2018 Canterbury Claytons awards night put to shame in not recognising many great achievements such as 232 driving wins and the greatest ever year by a leading stable .The Auckland/nz awards were done with some dignity esp from people such as Natalie and Mark. Good on Mick G. for handling the evening very professionally. ( and I am fast to criticise him normally) JJ Flash, Thejanitor and Iraklis 2
john legend 735 Report post Posted October 4, 2018 Steve Phillips had a lot to say and it was very interesting until Mick pressed him on the great benefit National Bloodstock had been to the breeding Industry. Sure Sokys atom proved his worth but lets not forget the large number of imports that were not to become householdnames eg. Del Cavallo,Mostest yankee,Apollos way,Silver Dollar etc.
