john legend 743 Report post Posted September 17, 2018 What a mistake to not postpone awards. But to then try to bluff their way through without awarding anything to innocent people (until proven etc) eg Driving award is the stuff Monty Python skits were written . Childish/disappointing..... no a disgrace to the Industry . Shame on you.

Taku Umanga 194 Report post Posted September 17, 2018 Should have been postponed - as should the major awards to be held in Auckland. Patiti

MAJESTIC 182 Report post Posted September 18, 2018 Being in attendance the mood on the night was vibrant not subdued. The brief does not mean that leading, highest earner etc has to be the winner of any of awards. These awards are about rewarding not necessarily winners. Far from amateurish as lot of effort and time put in by people who give for free. THE TORCH, lamour and LongOwner

Counter Punch 256 Report post Posted September 18, 2018 Hey John, might be worth looking at previous winners of these awards. The are, and as far as I can remember, always given to other people who don't win the premiership, but more those who have excelled above their norm in the season just gone. Don't look at this as those who organised it trying to run blind from what is going on - this is exactly what they do every single year. Nothing against Amateurs if that's what your suggesting. As for the date - its just plain bad timing and a professional outfit would have pulled the pin on such an event given negative press of late. its called Pro active crisis management john legend

I attended and found a really positive mood. Everyone I spoke to enjoyed themselves and the turnout was excellent. It was reassuring at this time to see so many people who are passionate about Harness Racing gathered in one room. Not sure what would have been achieved by a postponement. In a crisis and hard times I believe keep calm and carry on is the only to go. Well done to those who organised the event. westview 155 Report post Posted September 18, 2018 Hats off to those who give up their time to run such events. What I would like to see in the results is a reason why they won, it's all very well to spread the glory but with out a explanation as to why they won it leaves us all guessing. Did not realise there were a lot of issues with the nights awards. If these awards were postponed / cancelled then same would have to happen with national awards, they are still going ahead. john legend 743 Report post Posted September 18, 2018 I suppose in Monty Python's world or having passed through the looking glass with Alice, the excellence of a nz record driving year for Mr Orange and the professional excellemce of Mark Purdon and Natalee Rasmusson and also Robt and John Dunn goes unnoticed. Must not even be mentioned. let alone rewarded . No pure coincidence.. What an insult to poss themost talented Trainers and drivers Canterbury ever seen. JJ Flash 2,135 Report post Posted September 20, 2018 HRNZ’s Communications and Ownership Coordinator, Jess Smith, was awarded the Female Racing Achievement Award on a good night for the sport’s governing body. Sixteen-year-old Sam Thornley, who has a career in the industry in his sights, won the evening’s Rising Star Award. Thornley is eagerly awaiting his chance to step up from the Kidz Kartz ranks to become a junior driver. He won this year’s edition of the Kidz Kartz Rising Stars Drivers Series at Cambridge. Michael House’s incredible inter-island season was recognised when he took out the evening’s trainer’s award. House’s highly successful raids on the Manawatu saw him rack up 57 training wins last term – nearly double his previous best tally of 30. John Morrison’s 20-win season saw him crowned Canterbury Junior Driver of the Year. Bizarrely, there was no main driving award handed out. Leviathan owner Trevor Casey, whose racing team was headed by Lazarus last season, was named Owner of the Year. Star trotter Temporale helped Graeme and Bev Hulston take out the breeder of the year title. Winners Trotting Owner of the Year: Allan & Ian Neumann Pacing Breeder of the Year: Spreydon Lodge. john legend 743 Report post Posted September 20, 2018 (edited) And your point is ? Even M.H. would concede a stable winning 27 group 1s in a season is world class and have had asensational year eg nz cup,ak cup,interdom,5 jewelsmessenger, oaks ,sire stakes, oaks. hunter cup. the list would go on and on. As mentioned in this post the truth is this year to avoid embarassemet some trainers and drivers are too successful so must not get an award. (over achievers mentioned and fits nicely) Please dont insult the collective intelligence of this view . Edited September 20, 2018 by john legend wanted to push point home of AS season.
