Red Rum 1,833 Report post Posted August 19, 2018 Hamada part of Godolphin 's possible Spring carnival team won overnight at Newbury , looked very strong at line over 2600 metres. James Doyle got a holiday as a result of ride. Walton Street another possible was decent third after cutting out the pace. Prix Kegorley overnight with Marmelo up against OTI owned Casterton twice a winner already at Deauville. Doesn't look a crash hot field this year bar Marmelo. Big York festival kicks off Wednesday night and it looks a cracker first day. International Stakes could have 4 out of world's top ten rated horses in field , Cracksman, Poets Voice , Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow and Benbatl 2nd fav for Cox Plate. Throw in the three years olds Roaring Lion, Saxon Warrior and Lloyd William's Latrobe and I reckon go a long way to see a higher quality race.Great Voligeur that night also , a big Leger trial , Latrobe entered up in that also with the normal hordes of Ballydoyle entries. Cross Counter the one to watch as Melb Cup bound for Charlie Appleby. Later in week Stadivarius goes for final leg of million pound stayer bonus in Lonsdale (no Torcedor in field). Ebor on Saturday , won by likes of Nakeeta , Heartbreak City, Purple Moon and All the Good last ten or so years so well worth a look for spring. A lot of placegetters seem to end up in Australia at some point. The Knavesmire in good old days had regular public hangings at the course so original dual code venue really. If you like bit of history check out Racing Post You Tube channel Alistair Down guide to Knavesmire put up other day. Alistair Down has been around for years and is very good. It didn't end well for Dick Turpin on the Knavesmire.
Ohokaman 5,840 Report post Posted August 19, 2018 Just been reading about that RR. Don't know that he beat much but five in a row takes some doing at any level. https://www.racinguk.com/news/hamada-set-for-melbourne-cup-trip-following-newbury-victory

Be interesting how this years classic generation stacks up against them older horses . I think Poets Voice looks cut above .The Great Voltiguer might have some bearing on Melb Cup plans .Horses struggling to get into Ebor Saturday by all accounts . Anything under 9st looks a goner. Willie Mullins red hot favorite on a knife edge ballot wise and it's a 500 k race now so not to be sniffed at. chelseacol

As a point of reference Max Dynamite is 110 and Marmelo 113 ( Morrison reported in Post as ground too quick Deauville and will decide soon on trip ). First Nation top weight in first at York overnight Friday fits the Country Cup profile of likes of a Francis of Assisi so worth a watch. Atty Persse likewise worth a watch for Roger Charlton if he runs in Ebor as he has mentioned an Aus trip few months back in a report. Roaring Lion huge win in International.John Gosden got some stable list a moment.Stradivarius could pick up a mill bonus Friday night. Cross Counter looked to be getting better the longer race went on. If Old Persian wins Leger that form would look pretty smart. Connections of Thundering Cloud game , 5 year old gelding , below group 1 form , supplemented for 75000 pounds into International, one of the best group 1s of season so far and runs third and doubles money. Good on them for having some adventure.

Ohokaman 5,840 Report post Posted August 27, 2018 Looks like some Oz bound might be in some difficulty based on this RR. And quite how a horse rated 107 is the Melbourne Cup favourite is another mystery... https://www.racenet.com.au/news/ratings-roulette-for-punters-ahead-of-the-2018-melbourne-cup-20180827

Saxon Warrior and Idaho seem unlikely . Cannot see the Guineas winner coming out and Idaho will be very near top weight but really just boxing on bit below best in UK at moment.Casterton OTI owned so I suppose on a one way but he just looked OK at Deauville two weekends back. 107 or thereabouts got Nakeeta a run last year . Red Rum 1,833 Report post Posted August 28, 2018 12 hours ago, Ohokaman said: Yes but he wasn't favourite and finished where....? OM, Nakeeta ran decent race last year 5th carrying 53kgs , 6 lengths behind winner , only 3 lengths behind third . He represented the Scots well, plenty of deep fried pizzas could be brought with the coin he earnt. Dead rite though he started at 41 bucks, arguably had slightly better form than Withhold . Won Ebor off 103 whereas Withhold won what IMHO is a lessor race the Northumberland Plate off 99 . I would have to watch race again but recall Withhold had all favours dictating own pace in "Pitmans Derby " . In short I totally agree Withold is skinny .I think it's the thought he will slip in at real low weight.Nakeeta ran 4 lengths behind Jaameh at Newmarket prior to last year's Ebor win, Jaameh going OK from Hayes stable. As for Wolves, it's great to see a top old club come back , hope they do well. Not a bad City when you can head to watch Wolves play at home to likes Man City then zipped along to watch likes of Dettori and Moore fitting a few rides in under floodlights on a Saturday evening.
