Sickopunter 403 Report post Posted August 7, 2018 Change this to what? Don’t you think paying out 30c on the dollar on a winning bet would be a lot more damaging? Newmarket RC

No I don't - you know the odds and if you want risk getting sub $1 so be it - obviously a rebate bet with the rest of the punters subsidizing the rebate Newmarket RC

And while you may suggest that people know the odds many wouldn’t. Using your argument you could also argue people should know that when a horse is bet into well under a dollar and rounded up that it will impact the other runners. Newmarket RC 209 Report post Posted August 7, 2018 As this is a continuing annoyance to many what do you think would be the outcome if there was no make up to the dollar for any punters on pari mutual betting.. Is it an option/solution to the rebate issue
Pickel 45 Report post Posted August 8, 2018 Any subsidy is clearly coming from the large amount of money bet on the favourite to place, this is Subsidisng the inflated Place divs for the rest of the field if the favourite doesn’t Place. This subsidy is made obvious in NZ with the raw dividend of 30c being advertised everywhere. In Australia ( including Live approximates on SKY ) the favourite’s Place div is advertised at $1.00 so you’ve got no idea how low it really is. However in these instances, because the TAB puts back all of its takeout first, before taking back the subsidies from the other placegetters, anyone backing the other placegetters gets MORE than they would have otherwise, without the splurge on the favourite.
