Emotive 306 Report post Posted June 16, 2018 Reading through comments on other forums I believe Winnie is justified in calling for a full review of the TR. Gobsmacked by the number of TR members who breathe sand and blame all but their own leadership for their current state of decline. The "mine is bigger than yours" brigade exists in their own ranks to the detriment of all their members. Those whose heads have remained above ground place blame where it lies, within their ranks. They are being hammered for such treacherous thoughts. Twenty years ago when all three codes should have been coming together to consolidate and future-proof, most were too busy protecting their personal patch of grass or sand. Club against club, code against code. When all-weather tracks should have been built and centralised, tracks that could have provided a total racing package by including other types of racing, those in charge clung to an aging model. Even the big tracks went to the wall requiring major bailouts. When you look at the number of abandonments, reduced field sizes, and lack of quality fields racing week to week you have to wonder about the lack of vision within their ranks. Sure you can throw more money at the problem, but personally, I don't believe that will improve the situation to any marked degree. Yes, you can increase stakes which will ease the pain short term, but that won't sort the issues that exist. There has to be a change in mindset. Looking at the history of the CD and the number of tracks that have been closed to racing, the placement of the tracks that still exist, the loss of talented experienced people from the sport, and region, you've got to wonder was there ever a plan? Looking at the Manawatu, specifically Awapuni which races on prime real estate, should it have been relocated? Should a state of the art all-weather track have been built in situ or re-located? Should a new complex that included all three codes be built in its place. We all could have shared in the cost providing TAB racing 6 days a week. It makes financial sense to consolidate, the reduction of overheads was at least worthy of consideration. The face of racing has changed, the racing industry failed to keep up. Flabbergasted 67 Report post Posted June 17, 2018 Messara hails from NSW and his right hand man in that state is one Peter V'Landys CEO of Racing NSW. Speak to anyone from that side of the Tasman and they will tell you of the disdain these pair have for greyhound racing. They are all for Thoroughbreds and couldn't give two hoots what happened to the dogs to the point where through their greed they would actually prefer the greyhound industry closed. gary1
