rumpole 483 Report post Posted June 4, 2018 What a great days racing today , Avondale and Invercargill Trots. Not many years ago Queens Birthday was a good race day. Castletown Stakes at Foxton. Great Northern Steeples at Ellerslie..I hardly ever missed Foxton in 25 years Fantastic races today at Avondale with high stakes. The winner of the first only took 25 starts to shed his maiden status in what could be a track record at the course. Why was Otago raced on Saturday after at least 16 years on a Sunday??? Why and when and who???? Asolutely disgraceful Wh Patiti and Huey
departed 155 Report post Posted June 4, 2018 Yes, and look at the stakes. $10,000 and $11,000. Pathetic. Can just imagine the crowds there too, bet you could fire a gun and not hit anyone. Used to love GN day on Queens Birthday Monday, what a spectacle!
rdytdy 5,341 Report post Posted June 4, 2018 Rumpers, didn't it take Azawary about the same number of starts to clear maidens and he went on to win a Sydney Cup in the hands of Nigel Tiley who trained three winners at Avondale today. Yes, it was an awful field in the first but the stats clearly told you who would win and $3.00FF boost to one's TAB a/c to start the day was worth taking, however a Sydney Cup is probably a dream. Been a bit rough weather wise up North this weekend to be fair. The ground is getting pretty waterlogged at this point.

Queen's Birthday races at Dunedin used to be a highlight for southern winter gallopers.
