I see that there is a horse called Scorched Earth running tomorrow.

I remember watching Meriel Tuffnell riding a horse of the same name to record the first ever riding success by a lady rider in the UK, It was a 50/1 shot and shocked the racing fraternity.

Meriel died at just aged 53. If you are interested, here is her obituary.

Steve a previous horse called Scorched Earth raced in NZ. He was foaled in 1984 by Gaiter out of Sofia. Trained throughout his career by his breeder CLM Croskey he raced 81 times for 8 wins 8 seconds 12 thirds and 8 fourths. $61,615. He won four middle distance flat races. Two at Wanganui and one at Trentham and Awapuni. He then won four steeplechases. His last win was the Open Chase at Trentham on 9/7/94 ridden by Eddie Lamb.
