Dark Horses Captain Rosina was the Match Star and scored a BB in the last with team mates Sarah and Skelly also notching wins. The Ad Augustas all scored in the last with Tom and MVP Casper adding BBs while Wrinkles finally got on the board with a quinella. It was just as well as the AAs snared a bonus point for a higher aggregate which turned into 2 with their Joker Play. 178.60 Catalano 205.60 Sarah 47.60 Wrinkles 90.00 Skelly 65.00 Tom 0.00 Korio 152.00 Howie 321.00 Rosina 219.60 Casper 21.00 Moose 4 BETZA GRAND (6th) $891.20 3 points 1 FIVE NO TRUMPS (1st) $741.60 0 points The Five No Trumps could have stolen it in the last with Ravi's late surge on the rail but 4th was his lot so the Betzas held on for a much-needed win. Ian was the only scorer for the FNTs in the last but lost out to his opponent Dave (who also tipped the winning fave) on a countback with Dave's Perizada (3rd) just edging Ian's Ravi (4th). Betty, Robert (with a BB) and Betzas' MVP PJ (with a nice BB quinella) were the final scorers for the Grand. Redrum put up a good tally to take Man of the Match honours. The Dark Horses took their place moving up from 2nd to take the lead again after defeating the Ad Augusta who lost 2 places despite picking up 2 points from their Joker play. The Royle family made good use of their Joker with a win over the cellar dwellers Lay Down Misere elevating them 3 spots to 2nd place. The day's biggest movers though were the irrepressible Rubiks fuelled by an amazing score from Roland they climbed 4 places to now sit 3rd.The Betza Grands improved one place with their win but the Mainly Dollarz took a big hit dropping 4 places in defeat. Seven more rounds of Round Robin play remain with each team issued a fresh Joker for judicious use....

N1MUE 1,877 Report post Posted March 10, 2018 I think it's completely random Hesi. Peter, any thoughts on the higher seeded captain picking matchups (if they wish) in the play-offs? Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted March 10, 2018 John, Dave, Hesi: The individual draws are completely random. The way they are usually done is by assigning each team member a number value based on the order they appeared on my scoresheet in the previous week's results. Using a randomly chosen Saturday meeting (this week was Randwick) as a template I assign these 1-5 values to barrier draws (which are random of course) for the horses from race 1 for the first team, race 2 for the 2nd and so on. So for example the "playing order" for the Rubiks in the results on Saturday was Cubes (1), Kloppite (2), Hesi (3), Roland (4) & Geoff (5). In race 1 in Sydney on Saturday the racebook order of the horses that drew 1 to 5 is 2 (Oklahoma Girl), 3 (Perfect Rhyme), 1 (Karavali), 5 (Pioneering) and 4 (Dreams of Paris). So the draw for next week will see the Rubiks playing order in the draw reorganised to reflect this - 2-3-1-5-4 or Kloppite-Hesi-Cubes-Geoff-Roland. This method ensures a totally random approach. For the team draws I use an online draw generator. "teamopolis.com". John's idea is interesting and might be one to experiment with in future. The seeded side already has the advantage of facing a weaker side. Not sure that giving them another perceived advantage is fair. it also supposes the Captains know what they are doing. I think this comp in particular shows - with so many unsuccessful Joker plays - that outcome prediction is very difficult. Round 8 is the first week in a completely new 7 week round. It's just coincidence that the Betza Grands and FNTs face each other again. So essentially everything is random and above board and heavily supervised in the presence of all 4 cats ! Drawing Ian after he has had one bad week - he is highly unlikely to have two in a row - would not be my ideal scenario for next week..... The first round loser is looking for redemption. Most of us have played each other at some point and have people we like to avoid (or like to face). I thought yesterday ended up a particularly tricky day and there were a number of upsets in head-to-head matches. Keeps it interesting. Plus there were a large number of close finishes on the track.
