Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted March 24, 2018 ROUND 9 Race 10 - Rosehill R9 1st - 6 Quilista W-$4.20 2nd - 3 Sugar Bella Q-$6.40 Scr: 7,8,12,15,16,19 Subs: #3 then #6 3 THE BETZA GRANDS (3rd) $850.20 2 points 2 THE ROYLE FAMILY (2nd) $1490.40 2 points The Betzas stole it in the last with Dave winning his countback against Pam with Hetty Heights (3rd) beating Tulip. Graeme looked like he could have done it with his BB quinella but Quilista had shortened so much he fell $6 short of catching Sharne. Opponents Betty and Pete ended the day with quinellas as did PJ and Robert, the latter adding a BB to take Betza MVP honours. Jen put up one of the all time great individual scores in Super Comps to be the supreme Match Star. The Dark Horses final collects came from a Moose BB and a BB quinella from MVP Sarah. Moose got up to beat John but this was cancelled out by Rees reeling in Rosina. Sorry Ian, I know people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but team LDM are on the rise - at least we can now see the second to bottom team. Right first time 1,903 Report post Posted March 24, 2018 Hard luck 'The Rubiks' ...it looked a couple of hundred metres out in the last that Sugar Bella would lengthen stride for Hesi and deny us Ad Augusta the win we were seeking and expecting. But in the end Quiista was just far too quick ! Well done team-mates Casper, Tom, Cat and in particular today Wrinkles who turned around a few misses in recent weeks to score a valuable win today seeing off a very tough opponent in Geoff. Looking generally at the Comp, special mention of TC (The Crucible) who has now gone 9 from 9. In such a tough, even, closely fought competition to go unbeaten through 9 individual matches is a phenomenal performance. You won't see TC with $1000+ scores or even 500+ scores mostly ...instead TC is a masterful exponent of match-play and no wonder was the first name picked out of the 32 names in the draft. Special mention also of Sarah, who has gone from strength-to-strength in recent comps and is one of the most difficult players to see off in head-to-heads. A tower of strength for her team 'The Dark Horses.' Heartiest congratulations PJ on your success with my Golden Slipper Best Bet, Estijaab. What a little beauty this champion is ....bounced from one of the widest gates and gave them all the chance to run her down. They couldn't ! Just too damn good. A memory for you to savour for the ages, PJ. Couldn't happen to a finer fella. Looking forward in the Super Comp, Five No Trumps have come firmly into the line of sight of us Ad Augusta in terms of a forthcoming Ad Augusta joker play. 6 wins from 100 selections is just the sort of team we want to cosy up to ! We look forward to meeting soon, FNT ! Have a good week everyone. See you next Saturday ! Jen certainly is certainly capable of doing just that, John, but to my way of thinking the Jen-style of player doesn't generally go back-to-back, they get a big score, then they have two or three misses, then they strike hard again. So I would say that TC's timing is impeccable, and my money's firmly on him to go 10 from 10. It'll take an Ad Augusta to finally topple the champ TC. LastOf40 547 Report post Posted March 24, 2018 Yes this competition is all about timing and a degree of luck. Who you play and more importantly... when. I am having my worst comp for a while and seem to get the days when the longshotters do their stuff each week. For the statisticians like professor's John and PJ, take a look at the following. If I had played TC each each of the nine weeks so far I would be 5:4 ahead. I am betting (but not on yesterday's form) many would be the same. TC 9-0 1: 152 2: 121 3: 335 4: 331 5: 220 6: 353 7: 329 8: 133 9: 91.2 LastOf40 3-6 1: 216 * 2: 106 3: 443 * 4: 73 5: 287 * 6: 168 7: 157 8: 166 * 9: 93.2 *

Firstly I like the idea of the top 4 fighting out the finals, after two rounds of round robin the top 4 have earned the right to compete for championship honours! Credit to the comp with the closeness between all teams, all teams have a shot at the top 4, in fact LDM with a successful JP could go from last to first in a week So basically its going to come down to the Captains call with their JP to enhance their teams chances of being part of the elite 4, I would imagine all the smart (astute) for a better word CAPTAINS would be saving their ""Joker"" for 5NT, looks like you're going to be one of the smart captains Howie

Lastof40, for me the competition is 1/9th skill, 8/9ths luck. This ratio varies dependent on the player. Despite this large component of luck, there is a relatively close correlation between team totals and team's position on the ladder. tony
