Grant Dixon Suspended and Fined

6 posts in this topic

Australia’s leading harness racing trainer Grant Dixon has been fined for storming out of a stewards’ inquiry and has had his harness driving licence suspended for unacceptable driving.

Queensland trainer/driver Dixon, who has trained more winners than anyone else in Australia this season, on Thursday fronted a reconvened hearing in Brisbane.

Dixon had walked out of the inquiry on Tuesday, which was looking into his driving tactics on Baron Jujon in a race at Redcliffe on December 21, and he then removed seven horses that had been due to run at Albion Park that day

On Thursday he was fined $4,000 for leaving the inquiry and for withdrawing his horses, with $2,000 of the fine suspended if he shows good behaviour for the next 12 months.

Dixon also had his harness driving licence suspended for eight weeks for unacceptable driving of Baron Jujon, with the penalty to be served cumulatively with a suspension imposed for a similar previous infringement.

Dixon’s trainer’s license – which had been suspended after he walked out of the inquiry earlier this week – has been re-instated.

Dixon’s harness driving suspension is due to expire on March 1.

Some might consider he got off lightly given his history

Not uncommon, I have seen it before they think they are bigger than the game and their performance can't be questioned.

Withdrawing seven horses from one meeting, if that's the case it smacks of taking your bat and ball and going home. Not very professional.

His partner, Trista, has been disqualified for 12 months recently after being judged to have pulled her horse to the inside to give clear running to another runner in a feature race at Albion Park.

Many big names in QLD falling at present - seems the authorities are finally taking a strong stance.
