So if Chris Waller was training to last season's weight with Winx he would have been wrong by 11kgs.  Correct?

As I said weight is only one factor.

Idiot...everyone knows that as a horse gets older they carry more weight. That's what you call physiological progression. This years racing weight may differ due to this....probably much like the swelling contained by your belt. You're no hope...

Professor - how do you decide what is the optimum weight?  Signed idiot.

Horses have a skeletal muscular structure that at some point operate at an optimal level. Most horses have differing weights but are genetically within a range due to the limited genetic pool (3 stallions and 40 broodmares). Different trainers and food types have an influence over the ability for a horse to perform at a top level for the individual horse. The body condition and fitness is materially influenced by the management of both of these. Good trainers know how to optimise both. At a horse's peak ability, the body will have a weight that is genetically expressed. Less than, or more than this weight will have a correlation to performance. Depending on the grade of race and the opposition, the horse will need to be at their best to perform well. In the top grade (Gp 1) where all horses need to be at their optimal performance, fitness wise, to win, 10kgs difference from their optimal performance weight will make a difference.

There you go Berri

Won group races 1244 -1301     57lb difference...so tell us what his optimum racing performance weight is.....maybe the trainers an idiot?

Good to see they are being sensible and spelling her, so no Emirates. Hughie now riding Gingernuts.

Do you think they would be racing in the Emirates if Humidor hadn't lined up in the Cox?.....I believe they would have

Are they being sensible or a bit precious? One could say Humidor had a harder run in the Cox Plate chasing  a champion  and yet  he is now in the Cup 10 days later.  Are they just trying to maintain her unbeaten record and now going to select their races. Racing needs a champion  to focus on and I for one am disappointed that Winx  is not racing  on Emeraites day. Waller stated that she pulled up well so unless she has gone back why not race her. Two weeks is going to make no difference in their Autumn plans for The Championships and overseas.

She was badly beaten up, Waller is a very smart guy, he’s doing what’s right for the great mare.

He says she is in great shape not beaten up.  The spell is timed to allow an overseas campaign.  Twist that whichever way you wish.

Of course they are being sensible. They are looking after the horse first. Waller has said "she needs a holiday" which tells you some of those efforts, particularly in the Cox Plate on ground much firmer than she prefers, have taken their toll. If the intention is to go to Ascot to run in the Queen Anne Stakes in June, then giving her a good spell now makes perfect sense.

Why don’t you keep demonstrating how little you know ?

I'm only repeating what Waller has said.  You are the one making it up to justify yourself.

Waller said "she needs a holiday" and in another comment "we might take her to NZ "

Should they both be taken literally, both dismissed as a piss take, or maybe do the sensible thing and just read between the lines ?

I thought he meant he was going to send her to New Zealand for a holiday?

The owners/trainers get knocked if they over race their horses, and they get clobbered if they under race them as well. Winx can keep winning on the race track while the great online unwashed let personalities get in the way as they argue their trivial differences a week after the Cox. Maybe we should stage the Cocks Plate? Plenty of contenders for the win on Race Cafe.

What he meant by that was, "Connections don't need the money but we would like to see Winx add 3 or 4 quick Group 1 wins to her record. So we are thinking of sending her to NZ to pick up the Railway, Telegraph, and any other G1's on the circuit over Xmas/New Year. She could get ready by winning the Waikato Sprint, the Te Aroha Breeders etc. Oh, and the Zabeel (is it still G1?). Now she's ready for the Sydney Autumn Carnival after her "NZ holiday". :)

Not actually any reflection on our Group 1's Trump - she's done exactly that in Australia too remember!!! Does that make Aussie G1's weak too?? She's a CHAMPION mate. She would win any G1 anywhere!!! However, a nice spell on some decent NZ grass over the summer - in comparison to the Aussie dust bowls over the same period - doesn't sound stupid to me...even throw in a couple of 'practice' flights to tune her up for the trip to Ascot next year... :) Cheers.
