You have NFI about geo politics. The Natz had one policy ..borrow billions.Socialist countries like the Scandinavian examples are very successful.

You parrot Capitalist propaganda promoted by the sycophants of private central banking.

Mike Hosking: Plunging confidence a massive issue for Labour Government

The Government's greatest fear (well I assume it's their greatest fear, and if it isn't it should be) is unfolding before their eyes.

Business confidence is now at a decade-long low. Confidence is not new in a measure of this Government, it's been down since they arrived.

Initially it was dismissed as business not liking Labour governments. Committees were formed, speeches were made, promises were inferred, time was asked for. It's amounted to nothing.

The latest statistics out this week show confidence is at a 10-year low.

Making it worse is the overall figure, and this was the political argument made by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern about Labour governments, the overall figure used to be different to the personal figure.

In other words you might be a bit negative, but in your personal circumstances you expected to see things generally tick along, if not improve.

That number has now turned ugly, a net four per cent now expect their own circumstances to go backwards. Manufacturing, as a sector, wants to jump off a cliff. The services sector, as we have seen, is slowing alarmingly. That's punters not shopping.

Now, if you want a shred of light, there is the export story which still seems to be ticking over. We are selling record amounts of beef to China, the amount we get overall is up, the amount we get per kilo, or metre, or box is right up there as well.

The tax take is up $2.5 billion - but is that because of the economy, or the fact Treasury couldn't forecast what day it is tomorrow, far less a business return.

Anyway, there's still a bit there to hold off the defibrillators. But I'll tell you this for nothing; no government gets re-elected on a bad economy.

The economists now argue the Reserve Bank will need to cut the Official Cash Rate twice before the end of the year. And that's all very fine and well, but does that mean we borrow more, which is what a cut is designed to do?

I would start to doubt it: interest rates have been so low for so long, I don't think half a point turns an economy or necessarily intent. It doesn't take a bad mood and make it good.

I think we have fundamental issues now that are going to see growth continue to slow. We have 0.6 per cent last quarter. If it drops below that, it'll eventually flush through to give us annual growth below two per cent, what we have now at barely over two per cent is bad enough.

If this lot head to election year with decade-low confidence, a slowing economy, a dropping tax take, a surplus all but spent then you watch the National Party prospects, Simon Bridges or no Bridges, spring to life.

When people start really paying attention and the vote counts, history shows they don't vote for economic wreckers.

If you want proof how useless this government is the number of homeless people has DOUBLED since cindy took over , that's a disgraceful result and a true indictment on this government ability's , it's a staggering result , how many more before the next election ?? .,

Immigration is just under 70,000 for the year , what happened to reducing immigration to help the housing shortage . The governments housing policy is a shocker and cindy is so short of talent to promote to cabinet she was considering promoting a minister who beat up her staff , this is the WORST government in NZ history .

cindys priorities are so airy fairy she seems to think writing letters to 11 year olds are worthy of her time , what a waste of time that was , nothing better to do I suppose .

A matter of real concern is the economy , something is brewing just below the surface , I don't know what but something is wrong , the other day out of the blue Robertson talked about a government guarantee on personal  savings in the bank , up to $50,000 WHY ?? , is he expecting a run on the banks , who knows but with this hopeless lot at the helm anything is possible .

This lot has to go .

Alarm Bells are Sounding

By Owen Jennings

Alarm bells are sounding.  Not loudly, yet, but persistently and with growing clangour.

In another apt analogy, the storm clouds are gathering and the first peals of thunder can be heard.  Our economy is heading toward danger and those in charge are oblivious to the problem but, even worse, do not have a clue on how to handle the deteriorating situation.  There was more negativity Tuesday night on the state of the economy as the business community showed its despair at the Coalition’s direction or lack thereof.

The massive issue facing the Coalition is that it is faction-ridden.  The factions are irreconcilable.  In the middle is Grant Robertson, desperately trying to steady the ship knowing he has to try and deliver stability and surpluses.  On one hand, he has crazed greenies to deal with, hell-bent on achieving environmental goals whatever the cost – even watching the economy collapse if need be.

On another side he has a group of big spenders, focused on buying popularity and wandering around like drunken sailors squandering hard-earned, taxpayer’s money but, ignorant of its effect on the nation’s accounts, or simply too intoxicated with the adulation from the province’s wannabees to notice.

Another group led by the PM. The articulate and plausible, who have an inflated sense of their own international worth, determined to be crowned as savers of the planet and setters of new global trends with wellbeing budgets and rescuing of the homeless.

Yet another faction sees money as the answer for all Maori problems.  These won’t be content until they have created a dual and fractionated society by throwing endless dollars at each and every existing social problem despite how useless handouts are at rectifying such issues as history has repeatedly shown.

You can visualise the cartoon… Ringmaster Robertson trying to orchestrate wild factions of clowns, inexperienced, naive, arrogant and consumed, each with their narrow agenda ripping down and collapsing the Big Top.

The common denominator for each faction is runaway spending in the hands of maladroit novices.

Even those voters who backed them hoping for the bright new face of “kind government” are sick of waiting for a “transformation”.  It was always just words, virtue signalling and dangerous ideology.

The alarm bells include a rapidly diminishing surplus.  Spending rises by the day.  The calculations of surpluses were too generous.  Economists are doing the numbers and they are groaning.  Stephen Joyce’s knowing smile grows wider by the week.

Business confidence is falling.  It is not just sudden “captain’s calls” lacking integrity, research and economic rationale. There are nervous twitches in the world’s major economies; trade talks are foundering, there is uncertainty around Brexit, around the USA/China wars, around falling per capita incomes and much more. All this is confirmed by the rising price of gold.

Nervousness in the market is contagious.  Investment decisions get cancelled or postponed.  Two or three big co-ops in dairy and meat have failed to deliver and the Chinese have swooped in, eager to create plough-to-plate options on their own terms.

No major roadworks are planned.  The Coalition cancelled the most beneficial of these.  Hanging wire ropes down the centre of the road doesn’t create many jobs and leaves the underlying problem unsolved.  Currently, roadworks are being spun out as long as possible to keep the machinery running.  Unemployment looks set to rise in that sector.

Housing is a mess – a mess directly attributable to Coalition incompetence.  Developers cringe at the thought of even more incompetence being propelled into the cauldron.  The irony is that much of what was a housing crisis is now correcting itself.  The Coalition is like a fireman riding a bike to a fire.  Voilà, it’s all over before they get there.

But the blackest cloud is energy price rises and the havoc that the Emissions Bill will create in an already vulnerable market.  The obsession with climate change, despite New Zealand being the lone, chaste participant, shows we have a leadership more committed to showing off than to reality, willing to cripple our economy so we can beat our chest in the international arena.

Meanwhile, evidence for catastrophic outcomes is non-existent.  It is taking us into shark-infested waters that will crash employment, disembowel farming and send energy prices through the roof.

Energy prices impact all other prices.  It will take decades to repair.  Deliberately pillaging the economy, knowingly setting out a planned rape of what have been well performed, national accounts and doing so alone, internationally, when we are so small and exposed, is political treachery.

Were there some tangible reward for such harm, there might be an excuse, but doing it all for saving an indiscernible 0.2 of one degree C is utter madness.

The current skirmishing around the banks, including the Reserve Bank lashing out, is much more than a debate over reserves set aside for a rainy day.  That’s a blind, a side-play.  It is dawning on those in shiny suits in Queen Street that the utterly absurd outcomes proposed under the Emissions Bill and related environmental rules, are going to decimate their bank’s balance sheets.  Inflation from escalating energy costs will crash through the economy like a raging tornado, inflating the price of all goods and services, thereby awakening the sleeping inflation giant and sending interest rates skyrocketing.  You can smell the fear.

The constant harping and exaggeration about dirty dairying, about overstocking and methane emissions, has been all about conditioning us for a removal of up to half our farms and replacing them with trees. The effects in rural New Zealand will be calamitous for our farming families.  Trees produce no income for 25 years, leaving the rural community bereft of jobs and activity.  When they are harvested they can cause an environmental disaster like the one we saw on the East Coast a few months ago.  Falling log prices in the last few days may alter the numbers around the edges but several farms are changing hands every day – all are being prepared for tree planting.

The lack of understanding, of any semblance of careful planning, evaluation and strategic inputs is alarming.  Is the inner Cabinet plain stupid or is it hopelessly naive; like expecting a froth and bubble history academic to tackle New Zealand’s major housing problem? The Health Minister is a possum caught in the lights and oversees a sector desperate for leadership and a firm knowledgeable hand.

Education is run by the unions using Hipkins as their glove puppet.  Green ministers slash and burn progress with no robust analysis, no warning, no rationale.  Only Shane Jones knows what he is doing – the first politician to tax and spend his way to wealth and re-election happiness.

By October or November, the storm will wreak damage.  Decisions made by ‘feel’ not fact will become glaringly obvious as failures.  Missed targets will continue.  Commission and committee reports will start to fester as incompetent Ministers try to figure out their execution.  The year of delivery will be no more than a fake pregnancy.  It will be an unhappy Christmas.

Winning the RWC might stave off the day of reckoning. Losing it will bring the final curtain down.

Mike Hosking: Eugenie Sage's muddy thinking on Waihi mine risks helping wreck economy

Is Eugenie Sage single handedly wrecking our economy? No, she is not. But if we were handing out prizes for making more than your fair share of contribution, the Land Information Minister is your winner.

As one half of the Government's tag team on Overseas Investment Office decisions, her latest venture into economic warfare is to turn down money for gold in Waihi.

Waihi, of course, is famous for mining - it's a small part of the country reliant on that sort of activity. And a part of the region that will miss out on a mining extension that would have provided jobs and income from 2028 to 2036.

Sage's reasoning is the dangerous part. She cites a Brazilian mudslide, an event a world away, that stands little, if any chance, of happening here. She also cites our values: mining is against our values, namely sustainability.

Sustainability is not a reason not to do business. The concept of sustainability can be applied to jobs, like how sustainable is employment in the Coromandel when businesses pack up and go home?

The irony here, if you've missed the detail, is that the Overseas Investment Office (OIO) cleared the application, despite the rules already being tightened by this Government (who are anti-foreigner and anti-fossil fuels).

So having cleared that hurdle around jobs and advancing our economy, it goes to two ministers, Sage and David Clark as Associate Finance Minister.

Clark clears it. Sage doesn't on her spurious rationale. And because they can't agree, she wins and by her winning, we all lose. And this is not the first time she has done this.

The irony surely can not be lost, that this call is made in the very same week that the confidence levels in this country are at 10-year lows. This is an anti-business Government.

This is a Government so obsessed with hating fossil fuels they've rolled into Taranaki and closed down offshore oil exploration. A quarter of exploration area licences have already been handed back.

A $28 billion dollar project and 3000 jobs. No consultation and when they did finally front up, they promised a $26 million dollar Clean Energy Centre. Their ideology outpaces their reality.

Now Waihi is losing mining work, and what replaces that? The same work that hasn't been found in Taranaki?

What's their other major calling card? Regional development, the regions have been under resourced, they tell us. So their answer is what? Close more stuff down? And once it's closed down roll Shane Jones into town with piecemeal taxpayer bailouts from the Provincial Growth Fund?

How is this passing for anything close to a coordinated economic policy? And they wonder why the growth rate is shrinking to two per cent.

But back to the OIO, yes foreign money has to enhance a town, an industry, or a project, but equally a government has to be reasonable.

It has to want us to succeed, and it has to be open to expansion and growth, if not welcome it.

And Eugenie Sage isn't, and her overt and irrational excuses are glaring - and we will be paying the price long after she's gone.

Surely this wouldn't be true would it. Not even Taxcinda would be this stupid...using a NZ air force plane to go on holiday.

Where’s Wally?

by SB

Rumours are flying about the current location of Wally Jacinda Ardern. Rumours have it that she has flown overseas on an Air Force 757 with friends, family and women’s magazine reporters to an undisclosed location.

Someone needs to tell the woman that our air force is NOT her personal taxi service. This will be the second time she has used them as such, and, for sure, she will not be winning hearts and minds with that attitude. Military heads will be upset that NZDF assets are being utilised for a prime minister’s personal use, particularly when Labour governments rarely prioritise spending on the military.

Screen-Shot-2018-01-01-at-10.52.58-AM.pn Where’s Wally?

Jacinda is acting just like a tinpot dictator with her own personal plane. Such arrogance. The Air Force will have had to make an adjustment to their training hours and flight schedules in order to fly Ardern and her entourage to their secret location.

nz7571.pngClue one.

When flight crews are only getting 4-6 hrs a month of flying time, I can’t imagine that they will be thrilled to be her taxi service. Why isn’t she using a commercial airline?

She could have chartered a chopper and discreetly headed to an exclusive resort if she needed time out.

cooks-1.pngClue Two

The media have been kept in the dark about this trip, which they will not be happy about and, conveniently, the house is in recess. I wonder if a certain magazine was promised an exclusive?

A popular wedding destination for the wealthy is the private resort Aitutaki Lagoon which is a short flight from Rarotonga.

15.-Moana-Sands-Wedding-Kiss-1-768x512.j

Have the taxpayers just funded the travel costs of the family and friends of Jacinda and Clarke for their secret wedding? Have they funded a working holiday for Clarke and a holiday for Jacinda? Either option is a terrible look and the opposition parties and the media should hammer her mercilessly for it.

The PM is Having a Well-Deserved Holiday…

by Christie

… courtesy of the military…

Jacinda, Clarke and Neve took off on holiday together on Monday, heading away for a well earned break from all the stresses and struggles of running a country and visiting schools and kindergartens. They arrived in Rarotonga, where Clarke will use the time to film some shots for his TV programme, ‘Fish of the Day’.

cooks.png

OK… nothing to report so far. Politicians commonly go on holiday at this time of year. John Key used to go to his holiday home in Hawaii. Remember how the media used to try to use it against him… and definitely used it against his son, Max; trying to make him out to be some spoiled little rich kid who didn’t deserve a holiday because he didn’t do anything.

There was, however, a marked difference between John Key’s holidays in Hawaii and Jacinda’s trip to Rarotonga. John Key flew in a commercial plane.

It would appear that Jacinda, Clarke and Neve travelled to Rarotonga on an RNZAF 757.

There is virtually nothing in the media about this trip. Normally, we hear about it when the prime minister goes on holiday, but there is local media silence on this.

Well, maybe it is just a coincidence that an RNZAF Boeing took off from Wellington at around about the same time that Jacinda was going off on holiday. Nothing to see here.

Twitter is rife with speculation about this trip; but there seems to be no coverage elsewhere. Can you imagine how the media would be baying for blood if John Key had done this?

Some of the theories are as follows:

  • Jacinda and Clarke are planning a wedding
  • Jacinda is going to be a celebrity on Clarke’s fishing show to improve its poor ratings
  • Everyone in Cabinet knows where she is going but is sworn to secrecy

All of which is fine, however it is unusual for the prime minister to be taking an overseas trip without there being some coverage of it. After all, she was met by officials on her arrival in Rarotonga.

Kiwi prime minister Jacinda Ardern arrived in Rarotonga yesterday for a holiday with fiancé Clarke Gayford and their daughter Neve.
New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has chosen the Cook Islands as her destination for a family getaway.
The cheerful looking Ardern arrived in the country yesterday with her fiancé Clarke Gayford and their year old baby Neve.
They were greeted by prime minister Henry Puna and his wife Akaiti, Cook Islands Tourism chief executive officer Halatoa Fua and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Rarotonga International Airport’s VIP lounge.
Ardern and her family was adorned with fresh ei garlands by prime minister Puna. Her arrival went relatively unnoticed by people at the airport.
Ardern and her family were then whisked away to their accommodation. It is believed they left for Aitutaki where they will spend most of their time while in the country, late yesterday.
According to sources, Gayford will be using the trip to shoot for his Fish of the Day television show aired by Mediaworks in New Zealand. But an official source said that Ardern and her family were in the country “purely on holiday”.

Cook Islands News.

It seems that it is primarily the mode of transport that is being kept hidden. We probably know the reason for that.

If Jacinda has taken an RNZAF jet to go on a personal jaunt, then this is a disgrace. The military is only at the complete disposal of officials in corrupt regimes, or communist countries.

As for the media blackout on the subject? Well, remember that this is the most ‘open and transparent’ government ever.

Someone get me a Tui.

Demented, Deluded & Deranged

By John

Not a day goes by without the publication of an illogical rant by some unhinged politician of the Left. These poor deluded creatures, deceived by their own beliefs, are only succeeding in making themselves the laughing stock of normal thinking people.

Unfortunately, much of what they have to say is no laughing matter. On subjects such as economics, religion or society they spout a narrative that is born out of ignorance, hate, racism, and ideology. They harbour the fanciful thought process whereby hate speech is enunciated by everyone but themselves, when in fact the opposite is true.

The problem these people on the Left have is that most of their hateful rhetoric is ideologically driven. Beliefs held based on ideology rely on basic assumptions about reality that may or may not have any factual basis. Think Marama Davidson, Golriz Ghahraman and Julie Anne Genter for starters! These lunatics don’t pay any attention to reality or facts, they are just hell-bent on spouting their dogma which is anathema to rational people. They are so blinded to their philosophies that all logical thought becomes non-existent.

This modus operandi in the sense we are talking, if left unchecked can have dangerous elements. Some examples:

Economically it’s all about the policies of redistribution, screwing the so-called rich pricks, many of whom in reality aren’t, with no thought that eventually, you will run out of other people’s money.

Climate Change is where the fear element is introduced. Scare the living daylights out of impressionable young people with a load of unproven nonsense that we’ll all be dead in twelve years. Brainwash them to the point where they take it upon themselves to play truant for a cause on which they haven’t been given a balanced viewpoint. Julie Anne then informs us that this is our World War 2 moment. You have to be seriously ignorant and plain potty to come up with that comparison.

Religion is where these demented marketers of hate are at their venomous best. Golriz would have us believe that Jesus was a Palestinian refugee, an idea it appears, she got from two of her left-wing sisters in America namely Ilhan Omar and Linda Sarsour. The fact that this is patently not true is of no concern to these ideologically driven personages. Obviously, the nonsensical point here is to have us believe that the Jews are not a race of people and that Judaism is simply a religion. The Left is anti-Semitic the world over while denying that they speak the language of hate.

109819634_Corbyn-speech-Labour-conferenc

Freedom of Speech including hate speech is fine, providing you follow the rules of the Left which ironically are all about hate, anger and ridiculous assertions which have no truth in reality.

Perhaps the one thing that takes the cake is the madwoman Ocasio-Cortez, who managed to insult virtually the whole world by claiming camps on America’s southern border were akin to Nazi concentration camps. A statement that is breathtaking in its ignorance and stupidity. Was a bartender, now more of a barbarian it seems.

The Left today is nothing more than demented, deluded and deranged jackasses with a dangerous agenda based on numerous falsehoods. They are aided and abetted by equally dangerous organisations such as the United Nations and the European Union.

As Margaret Thatcher said – Left-wing zealots have often been prepared to ride roughshod over due process and basic considerations of fairness when they think they can get away with it. For them, the end always seems to justify the means. That is precisely how their predecessors came to create the gulag.

Begone! Enough is enough!

So Jacinda aligns herself to the 4 lunatic communist Dem congresswoman.(guessing team Trump BTW)

They stand for open borders, free health care for illegal invaders(voters), the insane 98 trillion New Green Deal and sympathisers for terrorists and Antifa among other crazy policies.

Not gunna end well for Jacinda.

Watched her performance at the meeting with Aussie PM. I’ve never been so embarrassed. SHe couldn’t keep a straight eye on who she was taking to - a sure sign of “I’m not sure why I’m here or what I’m doing”. As for griping about the serial bikie offenders being sent back, Peter Dutton would not even give her the time of the rising sun, let alone the time of day. NZ, what have you done replacing Bill English with this poor excuse for a Leader?

Jacinda’s Year of Delivery

by Christie

Matthew Hooton nails it once again.

For those still committed to reality-based politics, Ardern’s “year of delivery” is as credible as her earlier promise to be “transformational”.
KiwiBuild, the Billion Trees programme and the Provincial Growth Fund handing out only 3 per cent of the money Shane Jones has paraded are the most risible.
More seriously, Ardern appointed herself Minister for Child Poverty Reduction and declared it the reason she entered politics, yet by some measures it has worsened.

Beneficiary numbers and state-house waiting lists are up, with just 656 new state houses completed in 2018/19, compared with 1043, 466 and 732 over the previous three years.
The promise to deliver a Wellbeing Budget based on the Treasury’s Living Standards Framework turned out to be a hoax, with Grant Robertson putting his Budget together in exactly the same way as his predecessors. His decision to increase the Government’s debt limit by $16 billion suggests Steven Joyce was right, pre-election, to talk about a $12b fiscal hole.

That is a stunning list of non delivered items, don’t you think?

Immigration from countries other than Australia is as high as ever, still above 100,000 a year, a massive number for a country of just 5 million people with already failing infrastructure.
At least in Auckland, there is no bold programme to address that infrastructure deficit, with vast bureaucratic effort going into analysing vanity projects like the airport tram rather than radically expanding the existing rail system and optimising the roading network.

On climate change — which Ardern called her generation’s “nuclear-free moment” — spin continues to trump substance, with agriculture potentially going into the Emissions Trading Scheme but with 95 per cent subsidies. Who knew Ardern’s climate “emergency” could be solved by dairy farmers paying just 1c per kilogram of milk solids?
As yet, no decisions have been made on reforming water allocation rights and cleaning up lakes and rivers. Plans for a water tax have gone the same way as Michael Cullen’s capital gains tax.

Well, for once, I am glad about something this government has done… or technically not done, as it looked like they were was going to trash our economy completely by strangling the agricultural sector. Now it might take them 2 terms to wreck the economy instead of just one.

In contrast to Chris Finlayson’s cracking pace, Andrew Little has signed just three Treaty of Waitangi deeds of settlement and made no progress with Ngapuhi. No human remains will ever be recovered from Pike River, whatever Little tells the families.

This was always a lie of outrageous proportions, with the Pike River families being used as political footballs all the way through the ordeal. The West Coast gets what it deserves though… these guys always, always vote Labour.

On ethical issues such as complying with the Official Information Act, answering parliamentary questions and managing conflicts of interest, the Ardern ministry has complied with the maxim that each Government is worse than the one before.

No, Matthew, they are the most open and transparent government of all time… and also the most skillful with a black felt pen…

Ardern may cultivate a brand of almost naive sincerity but those around her are at least as cynical as those around John Key.
They know it will be enough for Ardern to take to social media to declare the year of delivery a triumph and to thank New Zealanders for making it happen. “The Government didn’t do this alone!” the Prime Minister will gush. “We all did this together!”
It will be amplified by those in the traditional media for whom challenging Ardern’s narrative remains verboten. Those who break the taboo will be criticised for not embracing the vibe. Such negativity, her cheerleaders will tell us, is not who we are now.

For those who criticise National and their inability to tear the government to shreds, the next paragraph gives us an inkling into how tough it can be.

In the post-truth era, the Opposition pointing out the sheer emptiness of the Prime Minister’s utterances will achieve no more than the Washington Post frantically fact-checking Trump’s. If Simon Bridges challenges the Prime Minister’s account, he will be ridiculed for looking angry.

A Newspaper.

That is happening already, with National being accused of heresy for questioning the value of declaring ‘climate emergencies’. These guys cannot win in the current environment.

Good on Matthew Hooton for calling out the government’s woeful performance to date, but he is a lone voice. Over on Stuff, on the same day, we have the inevitable puff piece from Tracy Watkins…

Baby Neve Te Aroha Gayford is crawling around the floor of her parents’ Sandringham bungalow when she discovers the big fluffy microphone in our video operator’s bag. She grabs it before her famous mum can stop her and starts making “woof woof” noises.

“There are obvious limitations to what I’m able to do as a first time mum. And that’s something that actually I just had to accept. There’s no point dwelling on that too much.”
The limitations Ardern refers to are “just not being around” for Neve as much as she would like.
“Some days I’ll only see Neve once (a day). Sometimes I won’t see her at all. Sometimes I won’t see her for a couple of days.

Stuff.

Personally, I am sick to death of a sycophantic media trying to keep the worst-performing prime minister in living memory in her job by constantly writing these pathetic articles to bolster her public appeal.

Doesn’t it strike you as worrying that, apart from Matthew Hooton, the rest of the media doesn’t even try to defend the prime minster’s dreadful job performance, but concentrates solely on the fact that she is a first-time mother instead?

What does that tell you about the quality of our government?
