You're right though Coopers Beach and Mangonui have become the new Parnell and Ponsonby, still a very scenic place to visit though. That Mangonui Fish and Chip shop is grossly over rated though He did well Hesi, hope he's still got it. Beachfront sites are $850,000+ now.... We've bought a place up here, it is a great place to relax. Agree about the Fish shop, the product is good but overpriced. The locals go to the takeaway attached to the Mangonui pub...just as good and a lot cheaper.... meomy

Looking very much like it will be the NZ First Racing policy, either way, which while it has it's faults, at least it is a specific policy on racing Turei has single handedly destroyed the Green Party. barryb 2,064 Report post Posted August 17, 2017 The greens destroyed is the best news in weeks. I can handle the reds without those nutters, it will be tough but I think Winnies mob has enough ability to keep the left of centre people in the red mob under control. I am at a loss as to why people would vote for the red mob and give away tax cuts, but I guess when nearly 50% of the country is tax neutral anyway, then I guess they don't give a f--k as they have enough handouts from the rest of us supporting them. There are a lot of young middle NZ people/couples, who realistically have no chance of owning their own home, and that's a biggie. If you recall back to your younger days, the dream of home ownership, was probably a very strong one The amount of money coming from any tax cuts being miniscule in the big picture This has happened under 9 years of the incumbent government, with rules allowing rampant speculation for most of those 9 years. Probably an issue that has washed away the apathy of many young voters, and raised the question, why vote for more of the same? barryb 2,064 Report post Posted August 17, 2017 At least one positive is its only going to be a one term govt when the public realise that Winnie is far better in opposition and the weakness of the Labour bench. $50 a week tax cut I thought would be plenty for those struggling, to make life a bit more enjoyable. Now Hesi think a little deeper about those young middle NZer's who you say wont own a home. Yes ok they might have to wait a fair bit longer than other generations but many are going to inherit a shit load of property wealth when Mum/Dad & the in Laws pop off. Well Barry, you're going to love this latest from Matthew Hooton "Political commentator Matthew Hooton says the latest Colmar Brunton poll shows it could "be the end of the road" for the Green Party. "This remaining four percent I would expect are mainly hippies and drug addicts in the West Coast and Coromandel, and they are exactly the sort of people who are unlikely to show up," Hooton said." Brilliant part of the country. was staying in Whatawhiwhi on the Kari Kari peninsular and just after a big storm we picked scallops up by the hundreds on Tokerau Beach. On the BBQ with garlic cheese and wine , heaven. We nearly bought into an Olive grove set up back then right next to Tokerau Beach, with individual sections and trees. Wish we had of now. Matai Bay on the Northern side is great for catching Snapper off the beach, as long as the Maoris don't see you. meomy

chevy86 2,707 Report post Posted August 18, 2017 About time the "soft" interviews with this Labour flake stopped (see NZHerald "at home" today with the boyfriend following the 4-person dinner party) and the hard questions were asked. Noticeable that it is entirely female, left-wing reporters driving the agenda to give her a cosy ride. Can not have male journalists "bullying" the emerging petal. Australia facing the same fate with biased journalism so I guess it had to come here after US and Oz. barryb and aquaman

Come on Chevy, you're being a bit tough, the press in NZ apart from a small number of the heavy hitters, has become magazine jornalism, just as TV has become Reality saturated, it's what sells. Changing of the guard, move over Baby Boomers, it's Generation X's time, and Ardern and her partner appeal to them, because they see themselves . Anyway, it's up to the opposition politicians to put Ardern and Labour policies to the sword, and so far she seems to have handled it all very well. Even John Key has said she is the right person for the job

chevy86 2,707 Report post Posted August 20, 2017 Now "climate change" is this generation's "nuclear-free" moment according to Jacinda and that goofy Gower laps it up. This wouldn't happen to be the self-absorbed crew that cannot get by without a plastic water bottle in their hand 24/7 ( aren't they made from fossil fuel product you morons?), junk food wrappers littering the country-side and bleating about house unaffordability while 4% interest rates prevail and they can readily drop $200 in a night boozing. Yet it's all the fault of the generation that recycled glass containers, home-cooked (i know they still do but meth doesn't count) and shared a bottle of blackberry nip very occasionally. And there's Helen leading the cheer-squad. Even wheeled out that socialist "husband" of hers for the occasion. And I am not just having a go at Labour--the whole lot of them are parasitical hypocrites who trouble my sphincter. barryb and pete

Guest Report post Posted August 21, 2017 Ardern has been on the trail in 3 general and 1 bye election, each time as an electoral candidate, and has 9 years in Parliament, if she was in any way flakey, don't you think she would have been slaughtered by now. Morgan is on his first and has zero years in Parliament. Who does Morgan think he is fooling, only himself really, as he has given even yet more publicity to Ardern. I recall a woman on radio, a talk back host, very forthright with her views, who ended up in Parliament and only lasted 1 term, as she could not handle the heat........Pam Corkery was her name
