stodge 1,912 Report post Posted December 25, 2021 The issue about Omicron up here isn't its severity but its rate of transmission which seems well above that of Delta. That means you get more people infected but fewer need hospital care but the net effect seems to be about or slightly less than Delta. In the UK we were up around 120,000 positive tests yesterday suggesting there's a lot of Omicron about but death numbers aren't rising and hospitalisation numbers are rising much more slowly than positive case numbers again suggesting for the vast majority Omicron is a milder variant. However, we still have a significant minority of unvaccinated and it seems those with two vaccinations aren't in a good position so the rush has been to get booster vaccinations into people (the horribly-named "jingle jab"). Unfortunately, it now seems the efficacy of the booster vaccination begins to wane after just 10 weeks so a number of the elderly who got their booster in the early autumn are more at risk than they were. It's quite possible the Omicron "wave" will rapidly peak and burn itself out though I suspect we aren't quite there yet. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have re-introduced some restrictions with a much lighter touch in England so far. With a significant elderly population, some of whom will have other underlying health conditions, even a mild dose of Omicron may mean hospitalisation so there's real concern if families mix over Christmas and the virus spreads through the generations. jack

Also , if it is what was claimed to be originally established in South Africa, is it more likely to be South African migrants who are getting it? We noticed that with Delta it coincided with the Indian community who tend to work in Countdown stores..and information that was provided to the media by various one's directly involved with the Covid situation.. Incidentally, the names they have given them are also where those stars are from in the night skies dating back to the 1800's. Funny that! Don't stress, we all have health matters and get sick at some stage of out lives and then die. It's been interesting how some are still so fearful, yet others are totally over all the fearmongering and getting on with living life as we all should be. meomy 971 Report post Posted January 4, 2022 Just a wee axe to grind with those who Question their credibility by the looks of it. Have these people stopped to ask themselves how the wider public feel been treated in such repeatedly degrading manners? We will not ever forgive Miss Wiles treatment towards an elderly Blind Gentleman who she told in week 5 2020 on ZB Radio session with Steven McIvor, that he was not to have anyone come into his home, this despite the fact he told her he had NO one do his cleaning or home help for 5 weeks already. What type of person would dare say that to any other Human Being in any country. least of all a Blind man living on his own who clearly was reliant on much needed care?
