A Billion Dollars a Week

Government Borrowing Is Out of Control

By Christie

During the Great Depression of the 1930s, governments all around the world borrowed – or printed – money to stimulate the economy. It was enormously successful because the plan almost everywhere was to get people out of the dole queues and back into work by building infrastructure. That was how so many of our roads, commercial buildings and state houses were built in the 1930s. This was not just in New Zealand: the same thing happened in Australia, Britain, Canada and the USA. All those Art Deco styled buildings that still stand in cities around the world are testament to a scheme that worked: the Great Depression was no more. Jobs were created, lives were improved, and the standard of living was improved with better roads, better commercial buildings and better housing, although unemployment remained high until the start of the Second World War.

What exactly are we going to have to show for the government’s borrowing this time around? A better health service with new hospitals? New roads, bridges and highways? Lots of new state houses for all those homeless people currently living in motels? After all, when you are borrowing a billion dollars a week, you expect to have something to show for it: right?

Nothing. We will have nothing to show for it. This government is spending the entire amount on the medical response, lockdowns and business support made necessary because of the enforced lockdowns… and a few pet projects of their own. In 18 months, in spite of the obvious failure of lockdowns in other countries and the fact that we are now getting on with the vaccine rollout, we are still being subjected to the harshest levels of lockdowns in the world… except, possibly, for North Korea.

At the end of 2019, going into an election year, the government suddenly discovered that they could fund some infrastructure projects. They pointed out that money had never been cheaper, so it would be a good time to borrow and build. This was the dawning of Grant Robertson’s ‘shovel-ready’ projects, which of course did not exist because all projects proposed by the previous National Government had been shelved unless it was too late to stop them. Nevertheless, it was a good plan, even if it was only ever an election bribe. The last time a significant amount of infrastructure building had taken place was in the 1930s, and the country’s roads, sewerage and water systems were desperately in need of investment; not to mention the new roads needed to give access to areas that had developed in the last 80 years. But this all made sense, didn’t it? Labour governments are the ones that get on and do things. National governments just maintain the status quo, right?

Well, that is what I am always being told. Whether or not that was once true, it certainly is a complete myth nowadays.

COVID put an end to all that. Let’s be honest: we were all totally bewildered in the early days of the pandemic. We believed that the death toll was going to be much higher than it turned out to be. In some countries, the death toll was devastating, but New Zealand has a low population and people, in general, don’t live on top of one another. That in itself has helped save us from devastation.

I can forgive the government for almost anything they did in the first few months of the pandemic because this really was a new experience for most of us, and particularly for a very inexperienced and inept government. Financial support was needed to keep people employed and to prop up businesses in enforced lockdowns. But subsequent lockdowns and government support have been overly cautious, and have resulted in the government borrowing much more than necessary. We are currently in our sixth lockdown, and the entire country was put into Level 4 lockdown for just a single case. The government has been borrowing to provide business support to businesses that shouldn’t have needed it. The South Island should have been allowed to continue as normal in the current lockdown, which would have generated tax revenue and keep borrowings under control. But no.

The next problem we are going to have to face is inflation. Around the world, interest rates are beginning to rise. Quantitative easing is always inflationary, and the consequence is higher interest rates. This means that the debt repayment will be made at higher interest rates than expected, which will slow down the rate of repayment, possibly substantially. It was short-sighted of Grant Robertson to say in 2019 that money has ‘never been cheaper’. Maybe not, but there was no way of locking in those low rates indefinitely. A more experienced and circumspect minister of finance would have shown caution. But all Labour governments spend taxpayers’ money like there is no tomorrow, and this one is worse than most.

My prediction for all this? Tax increases. Let’s face it: Labour governments love those too, and they will blame COVID for increasing tax rates on middle-income earners.

Once we come out of all of this – if we ever do – the country will be much poorer than it was at the beginning of the pandemic. There will be no money for hospitals, roads, water and sewerage systems, new classrooms or much-needed funding of new drugs. We will be paying off debt for decades to come. As a small country we are prone to shocks much more than countries with bigger populations, so what happens if there is another major earthquake, like Kaikoura or Christchurch? What if there are more economic shocks, like the Chinese real estate company Evergrande falling over? Prudent financial management from the previous National government put us in a good place if disaster struck, as indeed it did when they were in charge, but this Labour Government, spending like there is no tomorrow, has left us with no reserves, reduced GDP and significantly more debt than we have ever had.

I do not blame the government for the pandemic. Obviously, that is not their fault. Their response to it, however, shows them as a government way out of its depth, with no understanding of economic matters and no idea how to open up the country and get our lives back to normal. So much could have been done to limit borrowings and stimulate economic activity, but it is too late now. The debt will be a millstone around the neck of all New Zealanders for decades to come… all for a total of 26 deaths.

But when you have a government that takes advice from ‘experts’ such as Siouxsie Wiles, Michael Baker and Shaun Hendy, what else can you expect?

It just goes to show there are a hell of a lot of 'Experts' acting well outside of their Scope of Practice, Knowledge and Legal Qualifications as to what really was happening in Wuhan and in China in general.

For any country to react in the manner they have on behalf of the people without at least establishing a few basic commonsense facts is appalling.

We personally knew it was Winter time in China and not uncommon for people to travel to sunnier climates or to go on holiday internationally.

What has always really annoyed us is why have all those employed in Government agencies, including Aviation Control, Border Control, Immigration and the like, not been enforcing and carrying out their required Duties of Care in accordance with the Pre -existing Legislation in our countries, including relating to Biochemicals and the like.

Perhaps these Public Health experts, many who have had long standing roles with Cessation of Smoking Products which are also Bio-hazardous items would like to answer those questions in Courts of Laws as they are equally as important and relevant to Covid19 allegations what it came from.

Would someone in the New Zealand Government, including Ministry of Health, care to tell us just what did the man lying on the street die from, if he was actually dead in this video taken by Leo Ramirez, who is a photographer, and not a Medical Expert?

It's interesting to see who Ramirez is linked in with and what they have subsequently done.

Dr Scott Atlas on Vaccine mandates for Children Natural Immunity and Florida's Covid19 Surge.

Take note of his balanced words of wisdom about the above and the Personal Attacks, lack of open discussion by University Scientists - It's all to familiar to the bias we have also experienced in New Zealand.

As a Mother of a young child Miss Ardern , you of all people should be taking note of this well educated and experienced with real life Dr Atlas, on vaccines for children.

Your ongoing failures to question Science, let alone hold those giving you Advice from Universities is shameful on your part.

The sooner you are all held to account the better.

When is Ardern going to show some leadership?      First legislation to pass - compulsory for everyone to be vaccinated against covid.    Second legislation all gang or church or other group of peoples who offend against covid restrictions have their vehicle confiscated and destroyed.      And to enforce such legislation instruct Police they MUST act against any such law breaking.

The first Legislation would be in contradiction to the Bill of rights, among other international laws...

but hey if you think thats okay... perhaps she can then lead a massive crusade to a change whole host of other rights she can strip away!!

cos thats what you are suggesting!!

people who react to fear, without thinking... usually dont think when reacting!!

Got the wrong word Eljay--you are advocating "dictatorship", not "leadership", but the Marxist Ardern would readily embrace your decree. Compulsory vaccination?--very dangerous ground IMO. Time for individual responsibility now. Had your chance to get vaccinated, now you are on your own! while the medical world tries to catch up on the dreadful neglect of other health matters while this Covid theatre has been dominating the news.

chevy - she said she wants 90 pct.    How will she get it if 12 pct "exercise their rights".

Is there a clause in the bill of rights that says Police must not arrest lawbreakers - because they just sat back and watched didnt they>?

Why? How are the informed Unvaccinated a risk to anyone, the vaccine is dangerous and not even 50% efficacious so what’s the point? Hospitals are full of Vaccinated . You will be lining up for the Novavax poison soon enough but they need a large uptake before this can happen... then the numbers really get serious. Ignorance is bliss. You made you’re choice ,but you shouldn’t listen to Leaders who have NO clue. Natural immunity is the ONLY long term answer, and proven.Where are the Deaths in Australasia after all of these ‘Cases’ ????????  0.15% mortality and you want this poison Mandated

this is just a title, but captures the essence of part 10 within the Nz bill of rights.

If one right is infringed upon.. then it is in direct opposition to the law.

Laws are enforced to support and uphold the rights of Man... not enforced to infringe upon a mans rights

She can "want" all she likes, just as I "want" the vacuous schoolgirl gone! Along with every so-called "expert" cloistered in our universities, salary-secure and "modelling" issues they know nothing about.

90%, in my opinion, is unattainable due to "informed" hesitancy and the usual underbelly of apathy.

You have been punkd eljay

You only need to look up the 99% Unvaccinated in US Hospitals to realise how fraudulent these Scumbags are.
Question remains how are these Criminals getting away with this?

“Results prove that none of the vaccines provide a health benefit and all pivotal trials show a statistically significant increase in ‘all cause severe morbidity’ in the vaccinated group compared to the placebo group.

The Moderna immunized group suffered 3,042 more severe events than the control group. The Pfizer data was grossly incomplete but data provided showed the vaccination group suffered 90 more severe events than the control group, when only including ‘unsolicited’ adverse events.

The Janssen immunized group suffered 264 more severe events than the control group. These findings contrast the manufacturers’ inappropriate surrogate endpoints:

Janssen claims that their vaccine prevents 6 cases of severe COVID-19 requiring medical attention out of 19,630 immunized; Pfizer claims their vaccine prevents 8 cases of severe COVID-19 out of 21,720 immunized; Moderna claims its vaccine prevents 30 cases of severe COVID-19 out of 15,210 immunized.

Based on this data it is all but a certainty that mass COVID-19 immunization is hurting the health of the population in general. Scientific principles dictate that the mass immunization with COVID-19 vaccines must be halted immediately because we face a looming vaccine induced public health catastrophe.”

To make the above numbers more clear and obvious, here are the prevention stats in percentages:

  • Pfizer 0.00036%
  • Moderna 0.00125%
  • Janssen 0.00030%

New Zealand Ruled by a Dangerous Doctrine

by JC

If you pay attention to the modus operandi of this Labour Government, you could be forgiven for thinking you were living in a land where democracy is dying. Jacinda Ardern is behaving like an amateur dictator. She is an amateur because, while she has found it easy to lock down law-abiding citizens, she has completely failed to lock up the gangs that are currently running rampant with guns.

It says something about the Prime Minister’s thought processes that she finds it perfectly acceptable to fund a criminal organisation to the tune of three million dollars of taxpayers’money but when commercial tenants are having trouble paying rent, directly because of her actions, it’s not her problem; somehow its the landlord’s responsibility. How can any reputable government operate in such a fashion?

I defy anyone to say we are being governed in anything like a democratic manner. Democracy has well and truly gone out the window in favour of Ardern’s system of dictatorship. Covid has provided her with the perfect platform for implementing it.

Dictators rule by fear. Right from the start, Ardern has used Covid as an instrument of fear. Fear is a proven means of manipulating the masses. Having achieved this to a sufficient level she set about implementing her agenda. Much of it is anti-democratic both in its content and the way it is being rushed through the parliamentary process.

hooeypooey-1.jpg?resize=630%2C529&ssl=1 Hooeypooey. Cartoon credit BoomSlang. The BFD.

This government is not ruling for the good of the country but rather by doctrine: what they think is best. They want everything centralised and an undue input from iwi. Three Waters is nothing more than a devious way of handing water rights to Maori. To achieve this local councils are being stripped of their water assets with an offer of compensation far less than the book value. It is hardly surprising most have not bought into this shady scheme. It’s a good bet this nonsense will be forced upon them. Some councils do need some financial assistance with water and they should be helped.

Landlords have been made the whipping boys in all sorts of ways. The latest, and one of the worst, is what I referred to in my opening paragraphs. Brought in with immediate effect it means landlords have to bargain with their tenant to try and decide what is a reasonable amount of rent that the tenant can afford to pay. In the case of no agreement being reached it has to go to the arbitration court. This is nothing more than the government abrogating its responsibility. It beggars belief that the government can legally act in such a way.

Even more outrageous is the legislation whereby the government want to be enabled to keep postponing local elections any number of times from the due date. One has to question what the real game plan is here. If they can do it with local elections and get away with it they can just as easily do it with national elections. This is Ardern’s way of introducing her agenda slowly so it looks less dictatorial and dangerous than it really is.

The centralising of health and the changes at Oranga Tamariki are all designed to give Maori more control in this area. It’s control to the point of Maori having the power of veto over anything that is proposed in health. That is completely unacceptable and gives undue power to a minority in this country.

There are too many examples of this government rushing through legislation under urgency and not observing due parliamentary processes. There is a lack of consultation and an arrogant attitude of ‘we know what’s best’. Much of the law-making is bad and its implementation appalling.

Grant Robertson said on Friday that ‘stamping out’ and ‘elimination’ of Covid do not mean zero cases and haven’t meant that right from the start. That would be eradication. As well as a book of basic mathematics, Grant also needs a dictionary. Here’s why:
ELIMINATION: the complete removal or destruction of something.
ERADICATION: the complete destruction of something.

He is playing with words just like the government is playing with our lives.

This photograph was taken on 27 March 2020 at the ASB Showgrounds, Auckland.

This is in the period when the country of New Zealand plunged into Level 4 Lockdown and borders were shut down and is in the period when the Andrew Borrowdale Judicial Review decision was found in the favour of the people of NZ that the Government had acted unlawfully.

'We are locking the border for two weeks.'

'You must go home, you must stay home'.

The fact of the matter is the official saying on the WHO website said at the time,  and you Miss Ardern aand Director General of Health were supposed to include the words ''If you are unwell and have symptoms''

Chilling words you Miss Ardern said to the people of New Zealand and all those who were traveling around New Zealand away from their homelands and families and friends.

80,000 deaths was absolute nonsense 'Modeling' and scaremongering.

Lie after lie after lie Miss Ardern.

You have Misled the people of New Zealand and destroyed this whole country with your own Ignorance of Laws and who contributes what to the economy.

Who signed off the contract for these Mobile Campervans to accommodate the thousands of people you said would be infected with a virus we were told had come from a Bat?

How much was this contract?
How many billions of dollars has this cost the economy?
Why did The Ministry of Health and other Government Officials not ever factor into account the economic harm you have  all done to this once wonderful country?

Where are all these Mobile camper vans now?
Sitting idle?
Where is your Roadmap?

The psychological harms you have caused so many people is unacceptable.

If SHE decides that Auckland will be treated differently to the rest of the country, (and this is where a big dollop of her voters are) then she is courting trouble.     Unfortunately her present "brilliant road map" is unenforcable - photos in press over the month of people on beached etc. surely testifies  to this.    We don't want to see any more of these defiant outbursts like the Tamaki rally and the Gangs in numbers burning up the streets but it looks like it will be a certainty.        SHE has said we are a "Team" so why does she separate Auckland from the rest of the country.     Jacinda - Aucklanders are fed up with your grandstanding and businesses are pissed off with your efforts to send them all bankrupt.

Ministers Should Hand in Their Warrants

by JC

After Monday’s Covid announcement every Minister in this apology for a Government should do the honourable thing and knock on the front door of Government House. They should say to whomsoever opens the door, “I wish to see the Governor-General. I wish to hand in my warrant as I am a complete and utter failure and don’t deserve to hold the Office I have been given.”

First to the door should be Jacinda Ardern. The announcement from this woman at the ‘podium of truth’, revealed someone who has totally lost control of the Covid situation. If what she announced is what’s going on in her head, I fear for the future. There is no plan, no definite goals, just a few phrases and, within those phrases, silly rules which virtually nobody will obey. It’s a week by week strategy of nothing but hope. New Zealand will not survive on hope.

There is not one Minister in this Government who has achieved anything of note. They have all been what can only be described as political disasters. They lack the intellect to make any useful contribution to their portfolio and therefore to this country. It is frankly too much to expect that people with their backgrounds would have any idea how to run a country.

This would be the most hopeless rudderless Government in the seven decades of my lifetime. They have completely lost the plot due to their obsession with implementing a Marxist type agenda which will be their ruination, but unfortunately also the ruination of the country. Like all leftist agendas, those implementing it do it for one reason and one reason only – CONTROL. Nothing else matters. If the country is ruined, it doesn’t matter. What matters is control of the ‘team of five million’.

I think Ardern is in for a number of rude shocks. She’s just had the first. Covid is outside of Auckland. Probably there is no one more surprised than her. The upside is that is she might get a landslide drubbing in two years time if she chooses to stick around.

Her Ministers, including herself, are totally incapable of making any sensible decisions to do with Covid or any other area of Government. Police have gone woke with a Houdini Minister, Health is in a mess and the joint star of the daily ‘Pulpit of Truth’ could pay more attention to the shambles in his own backyard. Come to think of it the Health Minister doesn’t exactly look like he’s full of the joys of spring either. Education is in a similar mess with standards falling across the board and thousands truanting.

The Finance wizard, who goes by the name of Grant Robertson, thinks he knows more about that area than John Key. He says the economy is in better shape than it was pre-Covid. Perhaps that’s why they want to keep it going. Last Friday he claimed with a straight face that elimination was never their strategy.

Housing is also a disaster. If they could build houses as fast as the misinformation that comes out of the Minister’s mouth we’d have an oversupply. Unfortunately, the opposite is the case and set to get worse due to supply chain problems. Industry will pay a heavy price for Immigration Minister Faafoi’s incompetence. Tourism is dependent on a guy who makes it up as he goes along.

Cartoon-The-BFD-SonovaMin-Ministers-rede Ministers redefined. Cartoon credit SonovaMin The BFD.

Local Government is no more than a tool by which their water agenda can be implemented. Mahuta is ensuring it’s by Maori for Maori. Transport is in the charge of a man who can’t see his name for the trees. Michael Wood latches onto every unsustainably ridiculous idea that comes along while ignoring what urgently needs to be done.

green-privilege.jpg?resize=630%2C630&ssl Green Privilege. Cartoon credit SonovaMin

James Shaw, who has the Climate Change Portfolio, is drowning in hypocrisy and the Media Minister just keeps handing out the cash to the Government’s left-wing ‘fiercely independent’ friends, no doubt at the behest of his leader.

Which brings me to Ardern. The worst Prime Minister this country has ever had the misfortune to be saddled with. She is fast becoming a global embarrassment. As the Minister of Child Poverty (Poverdy) she has proven to be incompetent beyond belief. Figures have skyrocketed. In a word – disgraceful. The position she holds deserves better.

So it’s Government House or bust. Bust will be the situation the country finds itself in if they don’t. Winston Churchill wouldn’t have gone within a bulls roar of this herd. Unfortunately, Winston Peters did and gave us all a bum steer.

One would have assumed it is highly unlawful to take advantage of innocent young people,  who are not legally qualified or sufficiently experienced with life, with encouraging them to experiment with untested drugs in vulnerable states.

Peer Pressure is challenging enough with teenagers and those in their twenties without the added pressure of having to get a Vaccine pass to attend events.

Will we see or find out how many Covid19 PCR tests Miss Ardern and her family have had?

Will Gisborne and other locations where these Roadies are  currently taking place get put into Go Fast, Go Hard Lockdowns over the weekend leaving some stranded?

Where's the Daily Pulpit Grand standing with the figures for successfully helping the economy back on it's feet including Racing and Tourism on the international arena?

She who is on one of her own Roadies, priceless isn't it?
Maybe that's what she thinks is a RoadMap :)

In Gisborne I believe to further wedding preparations which will be media distraction fodder. As an aside she will staff barbecues to dispense fatty snags to a population already disposed to Covid vulnerability by unhealthy eating. All the time surrounded by other government officers, many of whom have her "roadmap" tattooed on their chins.😆

How much Public Funds have been disbursed and has it cost for the UN worker from Fiji from the NZ Public Health systems coffers for their 57 day stay at Middlemore Hospital and will those costs be requested to be recoverable?

Is that person a NZ resident / citizen?

Will that person be prosecuted for failing to Stay Home and in Isolation for failing to adhere to Covid19 imposed requirements?

How much of the people of NZ'S Public Monies is outstanding by those who have had Healthcare provided in NZ in Public Healthcare settings that has not been recovered and why have those funds not been recovered from those who have used our Public Monies for Healthcare for pre-existing Medical conditions that they failed to disclose they had on Immigration documents prior to arrival?

How many of those people along with Immigration Advisors have been hauled before the Courts for misleading Immigration and other officials?
