EPSOM DERBY,

Recommended Posts

The highlight was the post race interview with John Gosden, I've never heard a trainer talk so much sense, so eloquently, with such detailed understanding and interpretation of each of his horses efforts, and all with extraordinary clarity and insight.

The trainer of the Vela horse was impressive too, but Gosden was special.

It's worth watching the best English racing just to immerse yourself in their knowledge and passion.

I wish the lobotomised muppets infesting the Trackside studios could listen to the Gosden interview, firstly so they could learn from it ( fat chance ) and secondly, so they might just realize how infantile and ignorant their understanding is of horses as animals, the idiosyncrasies of tracks, and the actual racing.

No chance though, NZ racing has long been hijacked by people who know nothing useful about racing, and hence the accelerating slide into oblivion.

Question;

Is Pour Moi  the only sire of a Derby (The Derby!)  winner to stand at stud in New Zealand?

Do you know if he is standing here in 2017? Couldn't find any confirmation on the Windsor Park website.

He is not, unless Windsor change their minds or someone else thinks it's worthwhile.

Gotta agree. Purchased the Uk racing monthly pass for live viewing of most of the Uk races.  Great coverage the whole night, they sure know how to do a premier race meeting right, great interviews, coverage of the prelims, just top notch.

Pretty sure Montjeu comes under that category

Coolmore probably haven't helped things in the UK by sending him to be a national hunt sire.  They might want to change their minds after that!

You meaning they don't cut the feed to go to the maiden trotting race in timbucktoo? Totally agree, so much more exciting when there is focus on the one meeting with good interviews and paddock reviews etc

Apparently Pour Moi only served 59 mares in 2016 - thought he would have served more after Sacred Elix won a Group 1. Windsor also have 8 other sires for 2016!

Some of the Pour Moi's are a bit slow maturing apparently but at least he can throw a top horse!

Probably stood him at to higher fee really last spring and has had fertility issues.

Overall record isn't great but does have the ability to sire decent horses for sure.

Windsor have looked to invest more in their own stallions than the shuttlers in recent times

If you're into one good one every 100 foals then feel free.

Yeap a reason why he's on the National Hunt roster now, and obviously this was decided before the Derby

A Derby winner in UK and a G1 winning Derby placegetter In Australasia but not a lot else of real depth.
