We're Doomed 4,865 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 I don't think I have ever bought one. Wasn't it for the NI and Turf Digest more a SI publication? I seem to recall they merged at some stage. I get all my form online these days.
Ohokaman 5,841 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 Alan Caddy will email you fields which are updated with odds on raceday....much simpler......
chelseacol 2,488 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 I would miss it - all the meetings in easily carried format. Covered in handwritten notes and mops up beer. Rolls in back pocket. Perfect for track or pub. And yeah I do the online form as well which works great when at home etc.... just still like the Digest (dying breed I know) racingsouthdude, Memphis2, sir1galivant and 3 others

final luca 189 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 this is a shame.. I remember when I was very very young and my mother would send me up the road to the shop to buy a best bets.. $0.10 I think it cost in those days.. great reading for a young guy.. taught /helped me with my reading and spelling.. yeah I know.. it shows but that's all I got interested in . racing up the shop getting a best bet and having a look before handing it over to my mum... will be sadly missed. racingsouthdude, Escameno aka Cameron and sir1galivant
Tauhei Notts 1,413 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 I was disappointed when the price of the Best Bets went from one shilling to 1s 6d. But the times, they are a changing. (Bob Dylan) It will go the same way as the Turf Digest and Sportsweek. I have always wondered how they were able to get the Best Bets to our corner shop by 7 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, when acceptances used to close at 4 p.m. on a Monday. That was years before computer typesetting, fax machines and word processors. A significant number of punters would start on page1 on a Tuesday morning, and by 10 a.m. Saturday they would know the breeding and trainer of every horse racing in the country that day. Insider 3,960 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 My guess is that the Informant will be published twice a week. The second edition being just a form guide and that all NZ racing will feature in one of the two editions.
berzerk 107 Report post Posted May 18, 2017 The Informant a pretty good publication. A good shop window for the industry. Best Bets really is poor. And also when compared to what one gets overseas as a form guide. racingsouthdude

puha 2,177 Report post Posted May 19, 2017 As long as it still fits in your back pocket otherwise you may as well wait a day for the informant. Turny
We're Doomed 4,865 Report post Posted May 19, 2017 Sounds to me like they are increasing the price, changing the content and reducing outlets so they can then say sales have plummeted and we are stopping production. sir1galivant and hedley

Insider 3,960 Report post Posted May 19, 2017 I always thought that the Best Bets and the Turf Digest was the same thing except that they had different covers. Best Bets for the majority in the North and the Turf Digest for the majority in the South. The exceptions were the people on transfer who couldn't leave their old habits behind. I was a F/ Flash Reader...more articles etc. (Barrier Stats. winning info over certain distances)...ect HEY...HOW DO YOU USE THE FILTER AP / SCREEN AT THE BOTTOM OF TAB PAGE (ea. race) CLICK the buttons you wish to filter...e.g (won or placed this track/dist and Dead track) press enter and WAMMOO....NOTHING...YAY....any advice please? The BB and TD used to be quite different, but I think they merged years ago. There was a sister publication to the TD that was identical in virtually every respect except for different tips, can't remember what it was called; Racetrack, or something like that, perhaps.
