von Smallhaussen 3,226 Report post Posted May 16, 2017 as your mare is coming home for 8 weeks in the early stages of winter, depending on what part of the country you are in, grass quality will be average at best. Therefore ensure you are able to supplement good quality hay ( not mouldy or musty ) we prefer good red clover. Feed about 4 - 5kg per day in addition to other feeds. Also check when the mare was last wormed. A horse carrying a worm burden going into winter will not do well - we use Equimax LV in late autumn as this will kill tape and other worms.
