Insider, I understand you grievance especially when no one was there.  However more and more big organisations are getting caught up in the new world of Health and Safety restrictions.  Any bad news is jumped on straight away by the press.  You will hear a lot quicker about a non racing incident happening at a racecourse than a super racing performance.

If you are in any high position you have a responsibility for H&S.  PC gone mad etc I concur.  However like it or not we still have too many accidents at our workplaces etc.

It's my sport so why can't I do what I want to, so long as I do it sensibly.

People are not stopped from climbing Mt Cook and dying, skiing and breaking legs, playing rugby and becoming paraplegic, so why shouldn't I be able to go in and pat my horse and whisper in his ear before he races?

I will tell you why, it's because Boy George thought it was a good idea.

Well stuff him!

I now hope that he doesn't stuff my team.

I live in hope.

P.S. Yes there are too many work place accidents, especially in forestry and farming so toughen up on them, but sport is different isn't it? If not stop everything!!!!!

As the CEO of Ellerslie in this day and age he can be liable for what happens at a venue that he is ultimately responsible for.  You can be the judge or your own risk areas at your own property.  I am just trying to point out the world we live in.

Insider, this is why only very experienced people should be allowed around thoroughbreds.

It's a bit of a scratch I got last year when I wasn't paying attention, and I think I'm fairly experienced.

If it matters it would've killed every resident of Petone, every accountant, soccer player, social worker, or member of the Labour Party.

I didn't realise that CWJ was NZ's Premier Champion Jockey. What year did he win this award? Was it for Group wins? The most wins metro, provincial or both?

For goodness sake Trump; I am in no doubt that NZ's two most unheralded currently active champion sportmen are CWJ and Simon Mannering. Anyone who doesn't appreciate how good CWJ is has no real feel for racing. The man has been so good for so long, we are incredibly lucky to have seen his like in action for so long. Others have come and gone, but CWJ has endured and shared his skills with several generations of punters and other racing participants. We often don't appreciate such people until they have gone. In any other country he would be a superstar.

My own favourite CWJ ride will always be his Oaks on Domino. I'm sure other fans have their favourite rides as well.

But has he won a championship award - as was suggested by Turny when describing CWJ as "NZ's Premier Champion Jockey". I'm sure he's highly regarded as a jockey but was not aware of his elevated status. I've looked back through the TB Awards records and can't find his name. I'm sure he's very good but NZ's Premier Champion Jockey? Or is that just an "opinion"?

Just a kick in the head.

My point though is that if I can get tagged then it's dangerous, and it follows that if it's dangerous the likes of Liz and co are very vulnerable.

I know owners think they have rights to go to the saddling area but it's just not safe and to allow them unlimited access would only be inviting trouble and putting owners at risk.

The thoroughbred is a dangerous animal, far more so than those brain dead gypsy things, and we have to act responsibly not selfishly.

An opininion based on 50 years watching - none better Mr Trump - could have been a Superstar in Ozzie but life has challenges - when he hangs up his boots we are all going to miss a talent few have delivered - let's enjoy the talent whilst it is with us - legend guy

Well done to the NZ Met health and safety officer and risk management board member. A few northern clubs should seek their help to emulate such programs for this is a disaster just waiting to happen. Additionally in taking such measures there is a very good chance that ACC levies will be reduced in future and lets face it they are a trainers biggest bug bear and have been over the last 10 years.
