Race 10 - Doomben R8

1st - 6 Burning Passion $9.00
2nd - 13 Irish Constabulary Q-$142.90

scr: 7,12,14

3 THE ANZAC ARMADILLOS* (2nd) 1055.40
2 THE TRUMPING DONS* (8th) 1042.20

MOTM Pete bags a beaut BB in the last but its not enough to keep the Dons in front as Armadillo MVP Viceroy, P.J. & Cubes all reply.

With P.J. passing Punter Pete the Armadillos take out the match 3-2 and leave the Joker playing Dons with zero points.

A great match (unless you're on the losing side). :(

Subject to confirmation by PJ but for those who are curious to know, here is how I think the points table finished up.  Reds sealed the Minor Premiership, the Pretend Gers jumped into second with 5 points (a virtual bye today), and the Dons held on to the final qualifying spot despite a see-saw loss.

Reds 28
Pretend Gers 19
Armadillos 19
Dream Team 16
Reapers 14
Habibies 14
Thunderbirds 14
Trumping Dons 11

Stormers 10

Thanks for all your help scorers. Great final round in the Round Robin. Well done Armadillos - a narrow but important win and commiserations to the Dons who put up a great fight

If you have any queries please posit them in the next 12 hours as I won't be home until tomorrow night.

Don't forget the comp continues next week for all teams

Cheers Rees.  Not sure about favs - perhaps the most consistent side, but the play-offs are a coin toss and anything could happen.

in the absence of our team Captain - who may be at church, I believe this is the first time we have seen this stat. Did you not realise John that we threw this game to give our good friends the Pretend Gers the best chance of winning this comp behind us ;).

Things will change now that we are safely into the knockout stage and the cabbage will be transplanted into the glasshouse where the dogs cannot water the poor thing

Thank you scorers for your effort yesterday - time to sharpen the scythes for next week and beyond

I suspected that may have been the case - however may have back-fired as it looks like you might be up against the Armadillos who are a very strong side.   Guess you'll need one of those $2,000 days rather than the $400 days.  That's the beauty of the play-offs - just takes a couple of roughies.

ps.  was going to comment on the narrowest winning margin stat about how you came up just short once again and Mrs VS' thoughts on that - but figured it's Sunday so I should keep it clean.

this is a very up n down comp - just look how I bageled mooseman last week and he came back and top scored this week ;)

Mrs vS is far more concerned about why Maria kept refering to me as von Smalls yesterday

PJ, now that we have a rematch with the Warriors you might as well put me up against Steve again :),so he can exact  his revenge ,which going on my recent results wont be to hard. Best of three maybe ??. Might add some interest to our teams match over three weeks and make me take some notice of what I am picking. Just saying.!!

Agree John, I think selecting will be a bit of a minefield with the way the tracks usually are in NZ over July,  which means it's anyone's game :)

Just pasting this in here for those that might not remember how the Finals Series works.

2. Draw. The draw will match each team against another team every week until all teams have played each other in the Round Robin part of the comp. At the conclusion of the Round Robin section the top teams will enter into a Finals Series which will be a straight knockout with the following format:

Finals Rnd 1

Game A - 1st v 8th

Game B - 2nd v 7th

Game C - 3rd v 6th

Game D - 4th v 5th

Finals Rnd 2

Game E - Wnrs Game A v Wnrs Game D

Game F - Wnrs Game B v Wnrs Game C

Grand Final

Wnrs Game E vs Wnrs Game F

If the losers in Finals Round 1 want to play out the last two weeks in a 3rd-8th playoff series then we can do that.

The 9th and 10th placed teams can play a best of three series over the final 3 weeks for Wooden Spoon honours.

A huge thanks again to the scorers for their efforts on Saturday. Also thanks to John for his stats which I will declare official. The Final Round Robin Table is displayed below. The Reds are The Minor Premiership winners - congrats people !

A late charge from The Pretend Gers, who hit top gear against the Reapers in their final match, saw them jump from 4th to 2nd and an easier draw for the first Finals match (or is it). The Reapers abject performance saw them slide 3 places on the final day throwing them up against the Anzac Armadillos who were narrow winners over the Trumping Dons but lost a place anyway. The Dream Team played their final Joker and made up one spot defeating the Thunderbirds who lost a place. Zig's Warriors who will meet the Mongol Stormers - who fell victim to the Reds juggernaut - in the Wooden Spoon playoffs, were beaten by The Habibies, who ended up in the top half of the table (just) and will take on the Dream Team this week. The Trumping Dons lost narrowly but held on for the last Finals berth which has earned them a match-up with the Minor Premiership winners.

Please note: I am running a poll between now and Friday afternoon as to how we play out the rest of the Finals. The options are sudden death knockout or a series of playoffs which would see each team participate for the remaining 3 weeks of the comp (as we did with the Summer-Autumn comp). Vote for the option that you want. The outcome of the vote will determine what we do after Saturday.

Also note the Spring comp probably won't commence until late August.
