GOM 1,017 Report post Posted April 14, 2017 Just had a look at Greyhound data and see a report to the Queensland Greyhound assoc. with suggested new rules we are to provide 4 photos of each dog, even though they have ear brand/microchip details. The only thing a photo will show is the color, and that its a greyhound. The carer ( rearer, pre-trainer, owner ) has to keep a logbook on every dog in his/her care. Most people have pups reared elsewhere. These people have to now progress through a series of “skill tests”. These tests range from the sensible ( that EVERYONE already does ) such as getting pups used to collars and leads to ( wait for it ), teaching them to walk up stairs. They want us to take them on outings at 6 months of age to novel venues, to get used to cars and play nice with other dogs in the park. We are to socialise them so as not to be competitive. That’s right, we are to teach our animals at an early age to be NON COMPETITIVE. Lets take a rearers example: Lives west of Brisbane on 40 acres lowset house. Maybe 30 pups being reared. Has to show they go to vets for weigh-ins, yes, all of them. Have to provide play equipment to challenge them with problem solving. ( rubiks cube anyone ) Teach them to walk up stairs. Hmmmm, lowset house, ” I’ll just ask my neighbour if he minds me walking 30 dogs up and down his steps.” In the trialling part, you have to list every single trial, and put down the distance and time.. what does the time your dogs trial have to do with anyone? Its no ones business except the owner and trainer. It is not a welfare issue. No other animal industry has to do this. You don’t train a horse like Winx to be what she is by raising her as a childs dressage pony. Similarly, you don’t train a COMPETITIVE greyhound by raising it to be a non competitive house pet. dogrug, come on ref, Gary Sharp and 1 other
