El Soldado vs Blood Brotha

Recommended Posts

Which one wins the cage-fight for the greatest ability to work the system and pluck the juiciest plums?  BB--2 NZ Cups and one Wellington Cup and running around close to the minimum weight due to heaps of "misses" in the interim, and likewise ES, win and 2nd in Auckland Cups and now an Avondale Cup and carrying only 53 Kgs--don't tell me there is no re-handicap for the Auckland Cup??!! As someone posted in another thread there should be a minimum level at which shedding of points stops when there is several hundred K in the bin!

Think he rises too 58 kg in cup as its run under set weights and penalty conditions .  He's only lost 6 rating points since his cups win so your case does not stand up .So all races should be just run at WFA ? Also how much did you win off him today if he was a weights special ?

I congratulate the training performance and equally the ride. No one says a horse must be produced 100% fit to the races each time, or run with suitable gear or in suitable conditions.

Here's something though, a Colombia bred with over half a million in earnings and only 2 / 17 on soft or heavy. That must be a first.

Just seems crazy that the highest rating El Soldado has ever been given is 92, with 600K in the bank, but somehow a horse like Saint Emillion was rated 104 with 1/3 of that prize money. So he may not have shed a lot of points because he has never had very many! After all, we are racing for money, not rosettes and ribbons. It might be understandable if much of the 600K was won in age-group racing, but that is not the case.

P.S.-I have absolutely nothing against the horse and his connections but constantly running around on close to minimum weights is either inequitable or very clever.

Chevy has a point. The system penalizes consistent horses like St. E and rewards inconsistency.

As I've been harping on about for years on this site.

As it's currently set up the model punishes good trainers and well placed consistent horses, and the inverse is it favours bad trainers, inconsistent horses who're running on unsuitable tracks or over unsuitable trips, and the real issue, it rewards anyone who doesn't run their horse on its merits.....that's just another form of corruption IMO but you're forced into it in NZ.

The running of the 2017 Auckland Cup will mark El Soldado's fifth start in the race.. In 2013 he finished second behind Sangster, 2014 he was tenth behind Who Shot The Barman, 2015 fifth behind Rock Diva and last year he won, beating Rose Of Virginia.

Saint Emillion has obviously been badly placed .Best you put a horse in El Soldado s stable as the daily rates will be cheaper too. Win/Win situation .
