Guest Report post Posted February 12, 2017 Interesting article on the HRNZ site, that states that Mark Jones is going to setup another stable, at Menangle, Sydney at the same property as the Trittons. He says that it is too hard to make money in NZ at the moment and the new handicapping system to be brought in isn't going to make any improvement. Personally beleive that if it is run the same way as it is in the North Island at the moment then it is going to be a flop, but hopefully it won't be. A Better and fairer system would be on a stakes won basis mixed with no. Of wins. Mark says that he has many horses to take over including Rocker Band and with the Oz system they start basically as maidens and can race twice a week and they do,race for big stakes over there. He is to continue to run a stable in Canterbury as well but how long that will be for is questionable if he is successful over there. Mark is a very capable and successful horseman that we should not be losing to Oz but then you have to go and do what you want to do! I am sure there will be others that will go as well as the opportunities to win the big money here has become too restrained in recent years hasn't it? JackSprat 947 Report post Posted February 12, 2017 It's not too hard to imagine what will happen to his NZ operation. It'll be come a feeder stable for the Aussie operation within a year or so.
Jazz 62 Report post Posted February 12, 2017 Looks that way JackSprat. Already a big seller to Oz, perhaps will retain more of the good ones to race over there under NZ ownership. Either way is looking after his owners which is commendable in this climate, but it would be an utter waste to lose a trainer of his horsepower to our industry altogether.
