Well played Hurricanes we didn't have quite enough puff to knock you guys out , to the Stags team chin up guys there is always next week.

Thanks Alan.  Great effort from the Stags and a great match - lost track of the number of times the lead changed in individual match-ups and the overall match.  We hung on by the barest of margins.  Just missed a team profit bonus point as well :)

Well done team Canes particularly Viceroy and VS who got us home.  Big comeback from Viceroy! TC, what were you mucking around at? You'd better up your game a bit :)

Happy day today with Pure Lorde winning at Awapuni.  Roll on the real Canes tonight!

FINALS DAY 1

Race 9 - Randwick R8

1st - 6 It's Somewhat W-$40.40

2nd - 5 Happy Clapper Q-$155.20

scr: 4,22,23

subs: #2 then #10

QUARTER-FINALS

3 THE FERDIES (1st) 832.00

2 THE SHARKS (8th) 1268.60

The Sharks had a handful of chances to take it out in the last but the best was the roughest of them - Sense of Occasion - who lumped into 3rd. So the Ferdies drew a big bovine sigh and held on to progress. No one labelled the last race roughie. Bryan was, once again, the Ferdies MVP but the Man of the Match was a stunning 7 win effort from Jason who gave the scorer his biggest ever Super Comp hiding. Top effort Jase and a big congrats. The Sharks will prove formidable opponents for the other 3 sides in the 5th-8th playoffs I'm sure. Thanks for carrying me today team.

0.00 PJ

520.40 Jason

218.20 Heather

128.00 Rees

152.00 Steve

386.40 MoMo

240.60 Bryan

163.00 Mark

220.20 Maurice

70.80 Cam

3 THE HURRICANES (2nd) 1306.20

2 THE STAGS (7th) 1085.20

Everyone missed in the last. The Stags who had battled valiantly all day were reliant on the Newmarket winner but he found the bias too much of a task out wide most of the trip. So the 'Canes held on with Viceroy their star taking Man of the Match honours after labelling the Derby quinella. Damion was MVP for a gallant Stags outfit. They have a good win still in them I'm sure.

160.60 John

128.00 FWTB

116.80 Hesi

155.00 Alan

305.00 The Crucible

380.00 Damion

525.20 Viceroy

256.20 Kay

198.60 Von Smallhausen

176.00 Isaac

3 THE BARBARIANS (3rd) 1156.20

2 THE TURBOS (6th) 1144.20

The Turbos had a couple of chances to steal it in the last but none yelped so the Barbarians made it through to the semis after holding off the Turbos in a torrid contest. No one found the Darley roughie in the last. Bryn was the Turbos MVP and unlucky to draw Man of the Match Daniel (picks by Ray). Things get tougher next week for the Babas while the Turbos face a very competitive 5th-8th place battle.

173.20 Ray

347.60 Rosina

288.60 Steve P

138.20 Ted

82.00 Sir Castleton

23.00 Moose

69.00 Sasha

259.40 Betty

589.40 Daniel

376.00 Bryn

3 THE BLUES (4th) 1074.20

2 THE CHIEFS (5th) 872.00

The Chiefs hopes were raised at the death when Happy Clapper loomed and Blues hearts sunk but the free-going Godolphin bolter just kept going and denied the Waikato the win they so needed. No one tipped the final winner. Howie headed Brian for Auks MVP honours but had to concede to Man of the Match Catalano in the top two showdown. The Blues march on and are just one win from a Grand Final berth. A top match awaits them. The Chiefs now compete for 5th-8th place honours.

301.00 Brian

82.00 Sylvia

161.60 Gordy

114.20 Casper

238.00 Geoff

THE WOODEN SPOON PLAYOFF

5 THE CRUSADERS (10th) 3125.20

0 THE KAURI KATS (9th) 936.00

Yes, that's not a mistake in the Crusaders aggregate. Tom landed one of the biggest Super Comp collects ever when thumping Sarah with a gargantuan BB quinella in the last worth $1428.80 - higher than any other team actually scored today !!! Just for good measure Mr Gee got on the board in the last to down Graeme and make it a down trou for The Puddys. Thank goodness Kats don;t wear trousers ! Tom was of course Man of the Match while Sharne shone as Kauri Kats MVP. This is only one of the best of 3 so The Kats need back-to-back wins in the next fortnight to avoid the wooden spoon. The 'Saders will be tested post match hopefully.....where was this form before ???

292.40 Rob

46.00 Jen

One of those days with Happy looming in the last and looking like a huge team finish for the mighty Chiefs

I was at Ellerslie with the wife and had to pretend to be happy when her $5 ew bet bombed my multi anchor in the last race. Then I had a small percentage of the quaddie live at Randwick and got nosed again

well done Blues - hope you go on and win it!

I thought for one terrible moment there 50m out in the Doncaster that the Chief's 'Happy Clapper' had forgotten the script ! :). Even in the alphabet Auckland comes before Hamilton, so although 'The Clapper' came tantalisingly close to raining on the Mighty Blues' parade, fortunately 'The Clapper' belatedly realised its role and gracefully succumbed.

Hard luck, Chiefs. You were always right on the pace, but 'Invader', although it brought about my own personal downfall, set the Mighty Blues up beautifully for victory by turning 3 matches our way. You are a damn good team Chiefs, all the best for the remainder of the comp.

Earlier in the week I said that the Chiefs' Catalano is arguably the top selector in the comp. Well today I put 6 wins and $340 on him ....and Cat still won ! You're a champion Cat, not many can come from $200 down to win. Unless they're Tom of the Crusaders of course ! :)

Well done indeed Blues Brothers Geoff, Brian, Pete and captain Gordy away in Perth at present. Back-to-back wins at a vital stage of the competition, and already we're being hounded by family members wanting VIP seats to our inevitable Grand Final  matchup. Both the Ferdies and the Hurricanes had little wanders down Struggle Street today, before class ultimately prevailed. They've both got a shot at making the Grand Final ...I wouldn't rule either of them out just yet.

One thing we do know ...the Mighty Blues are in this to win this.

Commiserations Chiefs, very little in it.

Well done Blues teammates, and I am so relieved that I was able to contribute for a change.

It was a real long day yesterday, I must have been up for around 20 hours. 30c with clear blue sky's on arrival here in Perth.

I am on holiday so plenty of time to study the form before next weekend.

Regards, a relaxed and contented Gordy.

Well done PJ and his Ferdies.Too good for us.

Very well done Jason and MoMo.Fabulous efforts. All we needed was one more winner amongst the other three for success.

Bit like last week against the Mork Porks.

It must feel like winning the first two games of the series and getting thrashed in the last game of the series and going up

and getting the trophy PJ.

But wait there is more Rees so a final effort needed and we may win the also ran comp like last time.
