von Smallhaussen 3,226 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 The first race at Sunday's Winton Jockey Club meeting has been delayed until 12.40pm and there will be no on-course betting due to technical difficulties. Race one was due to start at 12.10pm but was delayed in the hope the problem could be rectified. Stuff understands there is currently no link between the Winton course and the TAB. Attempts to use a back-up satellite have been hampered by heavy rain and hail. Veteran race caller Dave McDonald, who is commentating at Winton, said he could not recall a meeting with no on-course betting available in his 40 years experience. Leggy 4,093 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 Sounds like a good opportunity for a couple of on-course bookies. Leakage? Almost seems like they ask for it.

Shad 1,558 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 May start a new trend, the cost of running a tote must be high and given low turnovers may happen more often.

Leggy 4,093 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 Yeahh, John Allen said it costs about $6m to replace the TAB tote trucks which are apparently starting to fall apart aside from costing heaps to get to and from all the venues. May need to start limiting on-course betting to personal devices and get rid of the totes?

DWJR 17 Report post Posted October 9, 2016 The on course betting is back up and running. http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/sport/85128823/race-meeting-delayed-at-winton-and-no-oncourse-betting On-course betting is back up and running at the Winton Jockey Club meeting. The first race at Winton on Sunday was delayed by 30 minutes until 12.40pm but bets were still unable to be placed at the on-course totes for the first three races due to technical difficulties. On-course betting finally resumed just before race four and was expected to be available for the remainder of the card, including the Winton Cup which is now scheduled to jump at 3.58pm. The delay was to try and rectify the tote issue and the nine race-card was officially put back one race. They should snuff out by themselves along with the rest of the racing industry infrastructure.
