Race 1:

Bannockburn late scratched - if you posted a sub you go on to that horse.  If you didn't post a sub you don't lose a life but you earn zero points.

34 entries in total.  6 on the winner including: Richard - back from a spell and clearly confused about which comp he's in; Howie - he was on Bannockburn but had Nomisma as his sub; and Sarah M who has been a star in the long form of this comp - perhaps not a one day specialist!?

Hubby Jason on the other hand one of four on the beaten favourite and in the early lead.

Race 6:

Two on the winner including VS who becomes our 3rd entrant to be eliminated.

Paige retains the lead but a joker play on Heroic Valour sees Al jump in to second place - quite fitting as I seem to recall Heroic Valour cost Al in LGL3.

4 minutes ago, Lloyd Vivian said:

Sorry I just realised I didn't name a Joker - can I make it Rasa Lila at this late stage??

Sorry Lloyd I can't allow that at this stage for a couple of reasons:

- not playing a joker is a risk & reward call in this comp - it doesn't necessarily disadvantage you like it would in other comps.  A number (around 10) of entrants didn't play their joker and I worked on the basis that was a conscious decision rather than an oversight

- you are now privy to information that others didn't have when they played theirs, ie. the state of the track which some might suggest doesn't favour RL  (time will tell)

Hope you don't mind too much.

Assuming Animator doesn't win (and Paige wins the comp), then based on current dividends, Al will take second place unless Rock On wins.  If Rock On wins then Hesi will sneak into second place ahead of Geoff and PJ - could change if dividends move.

Full and final results to follow once I've picked up the pizzas and confirm what ran last, but preliminary results would suggest that Al just pipped Graeme for the top spot.

Fitting finish with Rock On and Animator fighting it out down the straight.

Final Results:

Congrats to Al who exorcises the ghosts of LGL III and takes first place in this short-form version of the game.   Graeme with a best bet in the last came up just short but still finishes in the money.

The ever consistent Hesi finishes just out of the prizes - damn I'll have to run another of these - not giving up until I beat him just once. Commiserations to Paige who fell at the final hurdle, after a nice joker play on Get That Jive appeared to have given her the win.

Al wins a $50 bet and Graeme a $25 bet - you get to keep any profits from those bets.  I'm out of action tomorrow so suggest we look to place them next Saturday - post them Saturday morning if you can.

Thank you all for playing.  Time for a Lion Red!  (nah just kidding - can't stand that stuff).
