I am not a big punter and my livelihood does not depend on it. So having the odd $5 or $10 on a race on a saturday is purely for fun. Me versus the other punters.

The fun is doing study on the fields and a few minutes before a particular race I confirm my bet taking into consideration the track conditions and bias etc.

The fun goes right out of it when the bets are rejected and getting the bet on becomes a trial of frustration. No! I am not about to start running down to the local TAB or phoning in and using touch tone betting.
Once in a blue moon I can overlook but nearly every big day the same overload happens in the past year.

Now there are few monopolies left in NZ and the TAB is one of them.
The deal is that we are not supposed to bet with overseas agencies and they provide a good service. So if they are going to renege on their end of the equation then I will seek my fun with alternative companies. After all the TAB have made it an art form of making withdrawal of winnings from an account difficult, so the inconvenience of international accounts is not that that major by comparison.

Whilst I agree with most of your posting I don't agree about it being difficult to withdraw money from them. Simple scan and email them a copy of a bank deposit slip with a few other details and they will transfer the money straight to your account. Now if you cant scan it, they will accept it being faxed. Otherwise go into a branch.

Try getting money from an overseas agency. It's certainly no easier and offers less ways.

Good luck anyway whatever you do.

Finally, I am waiting on John Allen to release something on how they are going to solve the problem for next week and the week after etc.

Oh and don't forget John A, the Melbourne Cup is only a few weeks away, so YOU DONT HAVE A LOT OF TIME.

I had to read this a couple of times to see if it was meant  "tongue in cheek" :)

Flip it around and say to DEPOSIT funds, instead of two clicks on the Account "Funding" button dialog, you had to ....: Simple scan and email them a copy of a bank deposit slip with a few other details and they will transfer the money straight from your account. Bank deposit slips? ... Scan... Fax (I suppose that was big when JetBet was written (or was that Teletype)) ... drive the 20 mins to our local TAB!

You forgot the "run down to Petone with a bag of coins" option ....

Really?

I went into my local tab to withdraw everything out of my account  today and was told they couldn't do cash which I understood. So I asked for a cheque, but they said they couldn't do that either! The only thing that they could offer was to transfer my account balance to a voucher so I could take it elsewhere to withdraw it. Yet when i asked to put a bet on the next race they were going to be happy to accept it!! have to wander whats going on at times.......

Good post Geoff, out of interest, can you enlarge on the part of the post as below

After all the TAB have made it an art form of making withdrawal of winnings from an account difficult,

I don't generally have a problem withdrawing funds Hesi--I have made an art-form of losing on the punt! Hence no issue.

I've never heard of a TAB not being able to give you a cheque, I have had to get a cheque on a number of times from my local when they invariably don't have enough money to pay you, if your branch cannot even provide that service then that is pathetic.

Where was that out of interest? All retail outlets should be able to write a cheque & /or refund it straight back onto a debit / credit card. I'd be surprised if they couldn't do an eftpos refund.

I don't know if they're really into writing you a cheque these days, but no problems doing a refund to your eftpos card.  Not always a TAB close by these days, but it's not too bad.  I am happy for them to hold only a small amount of cash for payouts.  I blame that on the scumbags that have robbed them.  I think they should have a sign on the door letting the criminals know that there's no use trying to rob them, as they will have sod all in the till.  If it saves one TAB staff member from the trauma of going through a robbery, then it's worth it.

If you really need the cash feeling in your pocket, withdraw to your account, go to an ATM and get your cash there.

Was just interested to know what hurdles Geoff had found that the TAB have put in place with respect to withdrawing funds.

As others have commented, they readily accept cash, but getting it out appears to be another story.

I tried a TAB account not so long ago, but found it too easy to place a bet online.  Now if I want a bet it is a 45 min drive.

Sure have missed out on a few collects, but also saved a lot more.

The TAB I go to at Westgate, has always paid me out money if I wanted, for larger sums, like the very big collect on Tavago, a direct payment to a bank account.  Like many though I'm sure, I like the feel of real money in my pocket:)

Hi Hesi

Our local TAB in Te Atatu has great staff. But the entire road is coned off to a single lane and you have to really want to travel to brave the queues. Three years ago the council apologised for the next seven years of inconvenience, and they weren't kidding!

You hit the nail on the head as to why they make depositing easy. They know if you had to go through the same antiquated procedure for depositing as you have to for withdrawals then many would not bother. When was the last time I went to the physical bank or posted a cheque? Fax? I think Lawyers for legal reasons are about the only ones that still have them around. It is all done online these days. But the TAB stay rooted in the 70's.

Still, old habits die hard and we are off the Ellerslie this Saturday (after a quick check it is not Irish day or similar) and a trip down memory lane with their old machines. Half will have the lid open as poor operators struggle to get them to read cards or print tickets. A few may even have a readable customer LCD display.  No free WiFi to place your bets by iPad but that kind of thing is for coffee shops, not real businesses :)

For the record, I had a good day on the Racecafe Super Comp and would have had a lousy day on the punt, except being unable to place a bet saved me many a losing bet. I wonder how many others gave up about race 3 at Hastings.

I see the IP address homes to California. CloudFlare-ing the site wouldn't help - especially as most of the TAB's customers are local are they not?  Added to the fact that the site is predominantly dynamic how the hell does using a global caching service help other than give the appearance that all is working when in fact nothing is!!!!  Actually I've never done any health checks before on the their site but just doing some rudimentary ones and they have some poor configuration.  Won't mention it here as it might get Boris and Zelda excited.

Yes it very frustrating wanting to have a punt and not being able to get the bet you want on!

NZ TAB have from earliest days partnered with ebet as far as internet betting is concerned. Ebet changed their name to  INTECQ.

Just recently Tabcorp purchased INTECQ.

Press release.

TABCORP FORTIFIES GAMING SERVICES BUSINESS WITH $97M INTECQ BUY

AUGUST 2, 2016

Tabcorp is acquiring gambling technology provider Intecq in a deal that will see the Australian betting operator beef up its gaming services business.

Tabcorp fortifies gaming services business with $97M Intecq buyThe Melbourne-based gambling giant will shell out AU$128 million (US$96.9 million) for the Australian Stock Exchange-listed Intecq, according to the Australian Financial Review.

Formerly known as eBet, Inteq provides gaming technology services such as loyalty and rewards programs, cashless gaming systems and back office tools to about 1,200 licensed casinos, clubs and pubs across the country. The Sydney-based company also has a network of more than 70,000 gaming machines in Australia.

Intecq chairman Paul Oneile told the news outlet that talks with Tabcorp started after Tabcorp CEO David Attenborough approached him back in April.

In a statement, Attenborough said Intecq will provide “increased scale and diversification of earnings” for the group, which has a strong position in the New South Wales and Queensland markets.

The discussions with Tabcorp may be “amicable,” with the Intecq chairman describing his company as a “perfect fit” for the betting giant, but Oneile is not ruling out the possibility that there will be a rival bid—the company had already been approached by a different bidder in late 2015, but talks fell through after the bidder made a “low-ball offer.”

Intecq reported a 27-35 percent increase in its net profit for the 2016 financial year, compared to 2015’s AU$8.2 million (US$6.2 million).

In New Zealand, Tabcorp is also waiting for some good news about partnering with state-owned betting agency NZ TAB. New Zealand Racing Board (NZRB) spokesperson Kate Gourdie said in June that they are holding talks with the betting company about “automating” the NZ TAB’s fixed-odds betting business, which has been left to rot by Kiwi punters who are opting to wager online with internationally licensed betting operators that offered better odds and a wider variety of betting options.

The NZRB has been mulling at “outsourcing or partnering” some aspects of its operations, although Gourdie stressed that it’s still “far too early for us to discuss potential solutions when we don’t know what the final option will be.

Take ur pills Geoff the Canes are clearly superior to The Blues

Its Racing Hesirelli, these comps are judged on Ten 'random races' and as you well know finding two winners in an entire weekend is all a punter needs. On parole today is a classic example, rain on the day is important. $5 thanks for coming. You didnt have Jameka to win the naturalism which tells me you dont know your horses but get a few results. Swings and roundabouts,we all need luck on the punt but you more than most, and your getting it so good for you :)

"A great day's racing combined with a massive Pick6 and miserable weather keeping people at home watching TAB Trackside all seem to have combined to lift punting to heights usually only seen on days like Melbourne Cup and Boxing Day."

I find that a bit hard to believe.

They've gone cheap on their website host provider and I can't work out why they use CloudFlare which could be causing them problems.
