ROUND 3

Race 2 - Awapuni R5

1st - 1 Bannockburn W-$13.70

2nd - 9 Watch Your Man Q-$206.10

scr: 4,6,13

1 THE BLUES (1st) 100.00

1 THE KAURI KATS (5th) 212.00

The Blues all miss as Jen finds the Latta longshot to draw the Kats level. Is Howie the new Steve P ??

I'm thinking so, PJ, that Howie is the Spring Comp's version of the Winter Comp's Steve P.

$1575 scored against me in 2.5 rounds @ an average $630 against me per match. What have I done to the Competition Gods that they should come down on me so hard ?? Promise I'll never be horrible to the folk from the Provinces again ! :D

ROUND 3

Race 10 - Flemington R8

1st - 2 Don't Doubt Mamma W-$6.00

2nd - 4 Thames Court Q-$22.10

scr: 13,16,17

3 THE BLUES

$806.60

2 points

2 THE KAURI KATS

$1041.20

1 point

The Kats had 3 chances to win it in the last but none yelped so Graeme (with a BB) and Sarah made their final collects. The Blues held on for a win based more on fortunate draws than outstanding tipping with MVP Howie (quinella), Gordy (BB) and Geoff completing their collects. Jen edged Sarah for Match Star honours for The Kats who are somewhat consoled by a bonus point for a superior aggregate.

200.00 Gordy

175.00 Graeme

259.60 Howie

376.00 Jenlove

50.00 Pete

30.00 Pam

131.00 Brian

370.00 Sarah

166.00 Geoff

90.20 Sharne

2 THE SHARKS

$1140.80

0 points

3 THE TURBOS

$2437.40

3 points

Gruff's roughies never yelped in the last so the Turbos held on to win. A final BB collect from Sharks' MVP Mark to added to their aggregate which while reasonable paled into insignificance given The Turbos mammoth tally nearly half of which was provided by a master stroke from Man of the Match Viceroy early in the day. Porky (one of 3 Turbos to score over $400) and Sir Gallivant added BBs in the last while Punter Pete chipped in with a quinella (and nearly nabbed Pogo in the process). The high-flying Turbos took a bonus point for a team profit.

162.00 Pogo

159.20 Punter Pete

225.20 Gruff

414.00 Moose

454.40 Mark

281.00 Sir Gallivant

111.00 Craig

430.00 Porky

188.00 Rees

1163.40 Viceroy

4 THE HURRICANES

$1265.40

3 points

1 THE MAGPIES

$1056.20

0 points

Thames Court nearly won the last but it was never paying enough to get the Magpies up for a shock win even if it could have held out Dwayne Dunn's mount. The Magpies ended the day with wins from Ray and MVP Jason (each with BBs) plus Sarah. The Hurricanes, who took a bonus point for the 4-1 margin, all scored in the last with the exception of Cam. Man of the Match was Hesi with The Crucible not far behind.

344.00 Hesi

269.00 Ray

236.40 John

68.00 Steve

167.80 Cam

74.40 Damion

327.80 The Crucible

306.60 Sarah M

189.40 Maria

338.00 Jason

3 THE CHIEFS

$1219.20

2 points

2 THE BARBARIANS

$996.60

0 points

Steve P (with a BB) and Kay were the final scorers for the Babas whose couple of chances to steal it in the last never emerged. The Chiefs' final dollars came from Ian and an impressive Man of the Match in Casper who went out with a BB. The evergreen Cubes was the Barbarians' MVP. No bonus points were earned in what was a close match which could have gone either way. Kay will be making breakfast in bed tomorrow methinks....

675.40 Casper

51.00 Sir Castleton

106.00 Jack

459.20 Cubes

217.80 Sylvia

170.00 Kay

85.00 Catalano

75.00 Wrinkles

135.00 Ian

241.40 Steve P

3 THE FERDIES

$1740.40

3 points

2 THE CRUSADERS

$1844.40

2 points

In what was a highly competitive match which saw both sides easily pick up a team profit bonus point, the Ferdies held on to win with final collects coming from Bryan (BB), Nekky and MVP PJ. All the Crusaders bar Mr Gee found the McEvoy winner with 3 - Tom, Rob and Man of the Match Alan - adding best bets. This final flurry was enough to get the Cantabs aggregate past that of the Ferdies for a further bonus point. Thanks to Richie for a real tough battle where we each tipped 7 winners.

290.80 Bryan

521.80 Alan

331.00 Heather

304.00 Rob

328.60 Maurice

429.00 Mr Gee

THE TABLE - after Round 3

1st 8 Blues 3403.20

2nd 7 Turbos 5117.60

3rd 7 Hurricanes 3451.00

4th 6 Chiefs 3549.80

5th 5 Ferdies 3714.60

8th 2 Magpies 3196.20

9th 2 Sharks 2861.20

10th 0 Barbarians 2804.40

The Blues stayed on top after another winning performance but their lead was halved by the rampant Turbos outfit who kept the Sharks down in the table's penultimate position after an impressive high aggregate win. Comp faves the Hurricanes crept up another place after a comprehensive win over the HB Magpies who slipped one place in defeat. The Chiefs won but lost a place thanks to the 'Canes' bonus point while their victims - the Barbarians - remain at the foot of the table after 3 straight losses. The Ferdies were the day's big movers gaining 3 slots after their narrow win over the 'Saders who held 6th despite defeat thanks to a couple of bonus points. The Kauri Kats' loss to the Blues saw them slide down two spots although in a compacted ladder they are just three points off the lead.

Mighty Blues just loving this comp.

Match 1 - Mighty Blues score a lower aggregate than The Hurricanes ...but win more games

Match 2 - Mighty Blues score a lower aggregate than The Turbos ... but win more games

Match 3 - Mighty Blues score a lower aggregate than The Kauri Kats ...but ....yes, you guessed it .... win more games :D

So what's the outcome ...much to the relief of the Provinces, Mighty Blues remain unbeaten and on top of the table.

Winter Champions Gordy and Geoff unbeaten in their 3 matches, Pete with back-to-back wins, Brian steered us home against the Turbos, Howie floundering hopelessly at the rear but still happy all because .... all because ...life continues to be very good for the Mighty Blues. :)

Thanks for a good match Kauri Kats, and thanks for the comp day today PJ, i see you scored very well for the Ferdies  ...hearty congratulations for that.

Hope you all had a good day's racing everyone.

Peter Jenkins you never cease to amaze me.  50 entrants, 10 races, 2 selections in each race, quinellas, 2 best bets - and every score 100% accurate and immaculately presented with detailed commentary.

Compare that with the other channel.  Slightly more entrants (67) but only 5 races with one selection and one best bet.  I count around 13 scores that are still wrong at the 3rd attempt.  Just wait until next week when there is a weekly score and a cumulative score   Oh and at some point people are going to start playing their jokers.

ps.  I know this is not very Christian of me, but given the crap that guy has dished out, I'm quite enjoying it (nothing a couple of Hail Marys won't take care of).  I would have offered to score the other comp again but I'm going to be away for Cup week which is a busy week in that comp.

If you're in that other comp I'd recommend that you check your scores each week - Casper & TC found their shortfalls, Kay found Porky's & Jason's, Gordy you've been sold short a few dollars, .......

Its the beginning of the spring Trotting season ,my mind is elsewhere and we have horses coming up to start racing, but, yes it was a close run thing between me and Viceroy and a bit more due diligence in picking 46 more winners might have got me over the line.

Cheers Moose - looking forward to it.  Hastings & Randwick my two favourite tracks.  Have been watching a few Sydney trials and expect a few of them to line up on Saturday.

Watch out for a relatively lightly raced, Group 1 winning 4yo mare, trained by Gai Waterhouse.  May see her lining up in the 1100m sprint race??  Two trials wins were very very nice!
