Guest Report post Posted August 2, 2016 I note that Nora Bishop who seems like a real harness enthusiast trainer and colourful with her pink colours and gear, may well need a whip sponsor. I note she has 4 horses in at Addington which is great to see. However she looks as though she doesn't own a whip anymore. It has been notified that none of the 4 horses drivers will be carrying a whip. You would think they would be able to borrow one as I for one wouldn't think the horses would go that well without a whip urging? Might be wrong, time will tell, but pretty unusual I would say. Maybe someone in future could lend her one? Wishing Nora all the best though!
Shad 1,539 Report post Posted August 2, 2016 May be she is a user friendly new age trainer, good on her if it works. May be sum sponsorship from the animal rights organization wouldn't go a stray. Fostermd
Fostermd 59 Report post Posted August 2, 2016 I have had a wee bit to do with Nora. It wouldn't surprise me too much if she has forbid whips on her horses. She loves each horse and trains them all individually. She works damn hard with the horses she has and doesn't have the luxury of rich horse fleash. A true good woman of the harness racing industry Shad, Chestnut, rangi and 1 other

Guest Report post Posted August 2, 2016 Have seen Nora occassionally at meetings and always seems quite bubbly and excited prior to her horse racing. She seems to only be training cast offs or hard to train horses but seems to get fairly good results even though she seems to race them all frequently. Would be good to see her get some younger progressive types as we need young female trainers in the game. Not sure about backing horses though when no whip being used! Blue 1,080 Report post Posted August 2, 2016 Of course some horses, though not all, will put in that extra effort when given a swipe with the shellalegh though while it's more severe the effect is not unlike pulling the earplugs. I see drivers all over the place pulling plugs but I see very few horses that actually surge forward when its done. I can see whip usage certainly very much curtailed in the near future though. Fostermd 59 Report post Posted August 5, 2016 Tragic news today regarding Nora. She came off the road driving from Dunedin to Christchurch and sadly Hudson Sully was killed in the crash. He was an awesome wee horse who I was lucky enough to have my first ever drive behind. My thoughts go out to Nora and her crew.
