Grant R 348 Report post Posted July 14, 2016 Breeding season is rapidly closing in and breeders will be making decisions on where to send the broodmares My question is who do you think is value for money as a stallion you can look at it two ways 1) As a breeder for re-sale 2) As a breeder who is going to race the horse I will start with my opinion and i'm biased as i have shares in three from the boy and that is Darci brahma at 15k stud fee just a fantastic provider of consistent horses maybe not 2YO but as they get older they start showing something and as the great man says "Patience is the cheapest thing in racing and the least used" BART CUMMINGS

Mattski 176 Report post Posted July 14, 2016 I agree Darci B is great value as a consistent source of very good horses. Power seems pretty good value at $8k considering how they have kicked off in Europe. Of the new horses Complacent seems pretty fair value at $5k. I still think Mastercraftsman is underrated (although unfort no longer shuttling here obviously). Rip VW also fair value. Same with Per Incanto - only got to 11K and was passed in... Grant R

Personally i like a sire that im prepared to wait for the offspring to mature and like horses that can go over ground

Savabeel had had 5 individual group 1 winners and Darci has had 7, 8 if you include Super Easy. Darci's winners to runners ratio is better. I'm not knocking Savabeel as he is a great stallion but Darci Brahma is hugely underrated but that's a comparison to show how well Darci has done! I believe he has been valued at 15K to meet the market in a time where the foal crop is dropping so it gives him every change of having a full book! gubellini, MiDeBo Racing, Huey and 1 other

Berri 2,131 Report post Posted July 16, 2016 Unfortunately we have a lot of very mediocre stallions. Although the Darci Brahma's of this world have good stats in NZ, they can't compete in the hot pot. They're not good enough. As soon as the potential is capped, the value isn't there. The other problems with that stallion is the bullshit brigade were hard at work labelling him as a breed shaper when quite obviously he wasn't. We need more of the right stallions coming to NZ to give ourselves more chances. Interesting to see the performances of Mayson's progeny up north
