Guest 2Admin2 Report post Posted July 14, 2016 Looks like the forces of benevolence are gathering to take away the Class 4 Pokie Money Funds and return it to the communities from whence it came. In 2015 that was over $18m. https://www.dia.govt.nz/Services-Casino-and-Non-Casino-Gaming-Gambling-Consultation
Midget 4,489 Report post Posted July 14, 2016 The sneaky liars at head office have been hiding behind this income source for three years now, using it to prop up their pathetic lame performance, and really it's been the only growth they've managed to produce, even if it's immoral, unconscionable, and repugnant exploitation of vulnerable addicted gamblers. I hope the government does take it away, and give it directly to the Salvation Army so they can treat the poor sad addicted bastards who're generating it ( and their long suffering families ) I doubt it'll happen though, the lobbyists will step in, and the parasites like Peter Dunne ( who exploits pokie grants for his own benefit ) will ensure this disgraceful scourge remains in place. gubellini, Ashoka and GOM
bestbets 206 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 And how many sad addicted bastards are there that gamble on the races that also affect families, should we give the money made from horse gambling to the Salvation Army as well to help those families. I seen many tragic cases over the years and still do today and not just from the Pokie machines. The business of the TAB is gambling and pokies are a legal part of its business regardless of our own morals.
Trump 2,741 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 I don't see the comparison Best Bets. A friend of mine was CEO of a large Casino and he told me over a dinner one night after I asked him, "what sort of return does the Casino get from the Pokies?". "Mate, in the end, we get the lot. The shingles they get back are always reinvested chasing Jackpots." That's why if you go to Crown in Melb, JUPITERS Gold Coast or any Las Vegas Casino, it's now wall to wall pokies. They are played in pubs and Clubs by the people who can least afford it. They arrive from the payday office and it starts. It's sickening and they can do it 7 days a week - but don't because they have runout of dosh. The kids go without in the long run. There's no comparison with horse race gambling - even though it has problem gamblers also. But pokies? Ban them I say. (By the way - I don't bet on pokies and have never had an inclination to do so.) napier and Insider
Midget 4,489 Report post Posted July 15, 2016 Correct Trump. Anyone who bothers doing the work can win gambling on horses, just as you can win gambling on the share market, or real estate, but NO ONE wins on the pokies, and they're specifically designed to exploit the most naive and vulnerable members of society. My club has 18 machines and there hidden away behind walls and it is the only thing that keeps the club open. The machines are addictive but I hate them and never see the sense of playing them, I guess different strokes for different folks. I use to live at the casino and there are the saddest stories you will ever see in a life time and most of those stories didn't come from the pokie machines. I got to know a lot of the regulars and you wondered how they could afford to lose so much and then you find out reasons when matters came to a head, lost businesses, suicides, broken families, sold off homes etc were just some of the results. We have freedoms to gamble within our country and we always will have a small percentage that will not control their spending but we also have alcohol and drugs and there are ruin families from those social activities as well so at the end of the day unless we stop everything we are going to have ruin families. Your friend would have some stories to tell, he would have seen it all. Pokies are like a efpos machine, guarantee money.
