Happy Sunrise 554 Report post Posted July 7, 2016 What a mess it is over in Oz with Greyhounds. Truly shocking events which have impacted on everyone involved in that game, to the point of seeing the code removed from the face of the earth by the authorities in NSW. Makes me glad that HRNZ openly and quickly dealt with the metal lined whip episode and put it to bed and keeps drivers honest over whip use. HRNZ need to keep up their vigilance over all aspects of the trotting game and be proactive. We live in a day and age of 'moral causes' which mainly fade away in ordinary people's memories but this case in Oz just goes to show that on occasion it can have a massive effect. The trotting game is precarious enough in parts of NZ, imagine if there was an uproar about horse welfare or drugs that was centred on racing in Auckland...would it recover? I think all involved in harness racing in NZ, at whatever level need, to make sure their backyard is clean and tidy and if they see something detrimental to the game then they should report it. Is that snitching? No, it is protecting the families, workers and companies involved in the game. Moral crusade over! Somebody put up a topic about Amateur Drivers so I can get back the real important issues!!
what a post 811 Report post Posted July 7, 2016 Heres a small part of a Victorian integrity greyhound report last year. It stated there was A)a code of secrecy within the greyhound industry that renders it insular B)a fear of retribution from their peers and integrity bodies that prevents industry participants from divulging direct evidence C) conflict of interest issues with staff, real and perceived, that created a reluctance on the part of industry participants to come forward with information. Would it be any different if there was something going on to report in any of the 3 codes here in nz.?
