OK Leggy let us have a commission of enquiry into the whole dastardly affair,,,  what a waste of money and time that would have been??????????

Neal was unlucky but what did the matter have to do with his ability to be a bloody good stipe

Whoever named the  Stipe outfit the RACING INTEGRITY UNIT   has a lot to answer for

should have been Racing police  racing Enforcers    but the use of the word   integrity  was an unfortunate choice  goes back to Fin Powrie who was the first appointed manager for integrity for NZTR in 2006

he lacked any integrity all round

And, from a learned Gentleman of the bar, ''Neal was unlucky''!…….what a tasteless thing to say.

I just heard Greg Purcell say " only 4% of the population are interested in horse racing - that leaves 94% that aren't"

Before he became the NZTR CEO,it was the other way around,This guy is utterly out of his depth and that became very clear when he was under cross examination in my case, for a small time i did feel sorry for him with his incompetency, but then thought what is this idiot getting paid to run our Industry, then sanity came in and my thoughts were give him back to to Australia as we have has this clown for 4 years and it must be your turn again.

They have more sense Morty......"one of the best brains in Australian Racing" as one scribe called him once.

Clearly not a sentiment shared by many judging by the tsunami of job offers coming his way......

Don't forget, The Board of NZTR went on a worldwide search to locate and appoint the best CEO. They left no stone unturned and found Purcell under a " Bloody Big Rock.

I take it you are referring to the previous board. Goodson and co did not appoint Snow White, they inherited him from memory

Yes you are right Newmarket. The Board Chairman who can take the blame was Guy Sargent.

Well GS would have been on the panel but he would have had others around him so you are perhaps a bit harsh.Since then its been a case of the tail wagging the dog.

gubellini...

Nathan Guy is a dead loss. The chances of this person even understanding the questions that he should be asking are nil. When there is a real problem in an area covered by his ministerial portfolios, the government brings in other, competent, ministers to handle them. The fact that Mr Guy is a minister at all is an insult to all of us.

All the best.

Hope I dont get into trouble here as only a joke BUT...

Nathan Guy reminds me of John Keys shy cousin who stay out of the limelight for fear of reprisal.

There may be some merit in this idea but you really have to wonder how they could possibly issue a press release that is so conflicted?

RIU Statement - Appointments

posted Jul 21, 2016, 9:02 PM by Karin Attwood   [ updated Jul 21, 2016, 9:08 PM ]

The RIU has announced the following appointments to apply from 1 August 2016.

Nigel McIntyre has been promoted to the newly created position of General Manager Stewards
John Oatham, Chief Stipendiary Steward Thoroughbred Racing
Nick Ydgren, Chief Stipendiary Steward, Harness Racing
Gavin Whiterod, Chief Stipendiary Steward Greyhound Racing.

The key features of the new structure are the appointment of a General Manager Stewards, Nigel McIntyre, who will head the stewarding function for the RIU. Reporting to Mr McIntyre will be the Chief Stewards for Thoroughbred, Harness and Greyhounds.

The Structure provides each code with a Chief Steward to specialise on race day performance

There is no additional cost with the new structure, it will be accommodated within the existing RIU budget. The appointment of code specific Chief Stewards does not alter the RIU philosophy of cross coding. This will continue with Stewards working across codes.

Mike Godber
RIU General Manager

The RIU {if my sources are correct and I have no reason to believe they are not} need to hang there heads in shame.

I am told David Walsh applied for and was turned down for the vacant CD Stewards position.

I don't know to much about the person that got the employment, other than he has raced a few horses and was involved with Race.

Now if we look at Walsh,he is the most successful rider in NZ history in terms of wins,he was a Trainer and a riding mentor. He has a very good record with Integrity,no skeletons in the wardrobe. One of his strengths as a rider was ability to rate a horse in the lead,so he has an excellent judgement of tempo in races, which is something i believe the current mob lack, hence the lack of questions asked by them concerning rides or drives regarding tempo.

They have employed Stewards that leave cones on the track, they have allowed races to go ahead on clearly UNSAFE tracks, they allow races to run when cameras have branches blocking them, can find anyone to charge when a horse goes into the running rail and ends up on the other side,eg Karaka Million

You look at the people that are currently employed and look at there credentials to do the job required and yet the decision by the RIU bypass Walsh is bordering on lunacy and in my view the person/s responsible should also be looking for new employment.

Jesus, if that is correct, what a loss. The great publicity and exposure opportunity if DW was appointed is gone……..I just can't imagine same being the case across the ditch should the likes of D Dunn or let's say, S King apply for a similar position as they too are nearing the end stage of riding me thinks. I could be wrong, but it's usually a given across there, look at RIU in VIC, ex Jocks on the payroll, and wasn't Noel McCutcheon [sic] a success? Your thoughts?

My info is slightly different, I think he applied for the CD job but expressed a desire to remain in the South because his wife has a very good job at the CJC, he is however still very much a " live " candidate when an opportunity arises, and he'd be a very good man for the job IMO.

If that is the case, then why not have a reshuffle and send one to the CD and let him run the SI.

I have also been told he has secure a contract to ride in Mauritius,so you assume that his wife will stay in employment with the CJC.

Yes, probably you are. You will note that one Midget denotes himself "snr". Seems a pretty clear distinction to me.
