Candyboy won 20 races. He won his debut at Washdyke on 28/6/75 ridden by Jim Pankhurst. His last start was in the Wellington Cup on 17/1/81 when he ran 14/18 again ridden by Jim Pankhurst.

What a list this is turning out to be. Never imagined it would be so long.

Bit of Trivia, D A Peake never rode in a NZ Cup !!

I do recall him riding at the cup meeting...   he got the ride on a good 3 year old, regular rider being suspended.... can't think of the name just now!

Another good southern horse...  He gave me a great result when won the Winter Cup as a 4  year old.. completing a double with another horse on the list Lock Linnhe

gube, can you have a look up Miles Better, a horse that Candyboy raced against... the nracing site has him down for 14 but I'm sure he won more than that?

Behind the 8 Ball the horse that you are referring to that David Peake rode at the N.Z. Cup meeting may have been Sweet Legend in the N.Z. One Thousand Guineas on 5/11/83. She was the second favourite but only ran 14/17.

Behind the 8 Ball Miles Better raced 82 times for 14 wins/ 12 seconds/ 8 thirds. His last start was as a 12yo on 18/2/86 in Dunedin Gold Cup at Wingatui. He ran 12/16.

May I ask where you draw that stat from.... nzracing has him down for 90 starts....  but that was starting from 79/80 season... I'm sure he started before that as he was a '73 foal :)

Behind the 8 Ball I am quoting the stats for Miles Better from the 1985-6 Turf Register. He won the 1984 and 1985 Chalmers Handicaps at Trentham as a 10 and 11 year old.

Originally trained by wilson ellis them the owner miles johnson.

Overtheriver to be added to the list of 20 wins or more?

And Dummy has two sitting on 19 wins.

Scapolo and Sea King.  Although Scapolo has won two in Aussie and Sea King six so each needs a few more NZ wins to make this list.

Great to read the list of 47.

Interestingly, 8 of the top 10 were from the South Island, and 5 of those horses raced only in the South Island from memory, where there were very few, if any, mid week meetings.

Cheers.

Robert.
