Most Wins in NZ since 1979

This is a list of most wins on NZ soil since 1979. Can anyone add to this list for wins prior to 1979? Does anyone know of a source where I may expand on this information? Thanks. I know, for example,  that Grey Way had 50 wins from about 1970 to 79?

Great Sensation had 20 wins.

Mainbrace won 23

Kindergarten 26 

Gloaming had 57 wins including his Australian wins so will need to work out the split there, but well over 20 NZ wins.

The same with Desert Gold she had 36 wins including across the ditch but again well over 20 NZ wins.

Incidentally both Gloaming and Desert Gold share the NZ record number of consecutive wins at 19. 

La Mer had 23 NZ wins

I largely agree, except Sir Slick 6 Group 1 wins, plus 4 Group 2's, plus 2 Group 3's.

Struggling to think of another who has 12 NZ Group victories.

You've hit the nail on the head. Running him on too long ruined our memory of him. But it's not Sir Slick's fault. I remember him through 2007 when he won 4 Group One's and 2 Group Two's (the People's Champion). If he had been retired then, we would think differently of him.

Correction to Kindergarten. Should be 25 wins.

Looking at Desert Gold I can find four Australian wins so that would make 32 NZ wins.

Gloaming's NZ wins would number in the 40s.

CUF was a STANDARDBRED 150 years old (give or take) descended from thoroughbreds Vs Thoroughbreds 2000 years old descended from the Arab horse line sorry osceola no comparison. I love all horses even the hardy standardbred but you barking up the wrong forum here! BTW Australian harness derby's don't count for much.

I think I may stick to post 2nd world war at this stage to try and narrow it down and make any research easier.

Peter Cabriere ran 145 times for 23 wins. His first start was at Stratford on 24/10/60. He won ridden by Bob Jury. His last start was at New Plymouth on 26/12/69. He was unplaced and was ridden by Phil Kempton.

Somerset Fair won 28 races including the 1954 Great Northern Guineas and the 1955 Great Northern Derby.

Loch Linnhe 25 wins.

March Legend 20 wins.

Palisade won 25 races from 83 starts. His first start was at Wingatui on 23/12/61. His last start was at Invercargill on 17/5/69.

Gubes can you look up how many races Koral won in total.

I know that he won seven Homeby Steeplechases and four Lincoln Steeplechases as well as a Grand National.

Can you also check out Execute, Rochdale and Trentham specialist Cambridge Fair.

Cogitation ran 116 times for 25 wins. He won his debut at Invercargill on 25/3/50 ridden by Ted Winsloe. He won at least one race for the next eight seasons. His last start was in the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton on 2/8/58 ridden by C.G. Low.

Koral had 74 starts for 26 wins. His first race was at the Birchwood H.C. meeting on 21/3/64. He ran fourth. His last start was in the Lincoln Steeplechase at Riccarton on 12/8/72. He ran second to Enceeoh and was ridden by Bill Hillis.

Vice Regal won 21 races. All in NZ ?

Ted I only have Execute's record from the 1970-71 season to the 1974-75 season. In that time he had 80 starts for 22 wins. He made his debut at Avondale on 1/5/71.

Although Excecute won sprint,staying,steeple,hurdle,open,hack and intermediate races from memory he never won a maiden race.

Rochdale raced 78 times for 21 wins. He won his debut at 3 at Te Aroha on 28/11/ 59 ridden by John Riordan. At 3 he won 8 of his 10 starts. He did not Race at 6 or 7. His last race was as a10yo at Te Aroha on 22/4/67. He was unplaced and ridden by Des Wyatt.

Some of those 28 were in Australia, as he raced there as a 4 year old, but not sure how many?
