Who remembers this little useful publication from the 1980s ?

a few trivia questions from this issue:

 

1. Who is the horse on the cover ?

2. What was his biggest win ?

3. Who trained him and who is the jock in the picture ?

4. Trainers please for this trio- 

    a Pinson

    b San Lefair

5. Sires please for this lot-

   a Purdah Gold

   b Retsina

   c Magnitude

6. Name the leading jockey and trainer by wins for Poverty Bay in 1982-83

7.  Name the leading jockey and trainer by wins for Wairoa in 1982-83

8. Name the leading jockey and trainer by wins for Ellerslie in 1982-83

9. Mc Angus was a leading South Island filly in 1982-83 but her greatest claim to fame proved to be a posthumous one. What was it and who trained McAngus ?

10. Name the foreign jockey who regularly rode a Champion 3yo trained in the South island.

Great publication P.J.    I remember Drum and Amrica on the cover too, had to save my Ak star paper run money up to fork out for that book at about $5 for memory..went straight to the indexes to see who was lining up over that month.......i buy the informant now at $7.50, closest thing to the old Friday flash.

John is correct on 6,7,8,10

Al is correct on 1, 3a, 4a, 4c

Lloyd has #2 & #9 correct also.

 

Surprised no one has named the jock.

Just some stallions to name, the Derby-winning hoop and San Lefair's trainer. I actually bought San Lefair as a broodmare for a client in the early 90s !

Her best run was probably a 4th to Mr Trick in the Gr1 Fourex Cup in Brisbane (beating Rose and Thistle, Hayley's Hope, Atrapar & Avitt, although she did win a number of open handicaps including one at Ellerlsie and the Poverty Bay Gold Cup beating Whitole.
