Yankiwi 782 Report post Posted February 10, 2016 What's going on with some of the tracks around NZ? Ascot as I recall have been hand starts over the 390m for at least the last 3 race meets held there. The Cambridge record doesn't seem to be to any better over the last few race meets either. Once again today all hand starts. Couple those with some of the weight scales that have been under performing from a couple of other venues, a serious issues with less than adequate photo finish technology which has been well documented elsewhere and a flexible starting gate (which now seems corrected) it could be suggested it might be time to unplug tote racing altogether and make it a "hobby" once again. Are clubs that bad off that they repeatedly can't even have the equipment required to hold a race meet operating correctly? Come on people, these should be the easy things to have all sorted before the Trackside truck show up. aquaman, GONSTA, gary1 and 5 others

Gary Sharp 224 Report post Posted February 12, 2016 I will say this about the boxes at Cambridge. Even though it's a pain in the ass they are always breaking down but when you have to manually close them as well as open them you get 1 hell of a good work out with it during summer when you have to swing on the lids to close them cause they are heavy (not as heavy as the old ones but still heavy enough to work on all the core areas of the body). After swinging on them for all the trials & races from those boxes you wont need to go to the gym afterwards. I.E. on Thursday we had 11 trials from the 375m boxes & 8 races. After swinging on the lids to close them 19 times I was stuffed but it gave me a good work out. gary1
WhoKnows 791 Report post Posted February 13, 2016 Well they need to get them fixed, if anything else it is a health and safety issue for you having to do that all the time, but Waikato is very precious when it comes to any criticism so I better not say anything more to upset them. modest mouse
Yankiwi 782 Report post Posted February 19, 2016 Addington today. Another venue for the list? "Track: Good The photo finish equipment failed to work for races 9 and 10." https://www.thedogs.co.nz/catch-the-action/12033/stewards-report.aspx So what would happen if those races only had a nose in them? I can answer that Yani. Thats why we have a Judge. And the Judges decision is final.

I guess you didn't see that race at Bendigo a week and a bit ago. TAB paid out on the 1 dog, but the decision was overturned and the 6 dog got the nod and winning prize money... I'm sure there would have been a lot of people that had the 6 to win / in a tri yet would be none the wiser. Wonder what head office would say if you backed the 6, surely they would have HAD to pay out on it as well.

But did see the fiasco at Southland where the Judge was overruled by the Stipe, highlighting another example of ignoring the rules when it suits, something thats now becoming the norm. Yankiwi 782 Report post Posted April 18, 2016 It's been a couple of months since this topic was last visited. Ascot greyhounds are an hour & a bit from the first race today. Will the 390m races be electronically started? Hand started? Some form of #8 wire combination of the two as in the past? The last post on the RIU's twitter feed was about harness racing from two days ago. https://twitter.com/riuorgnz?ref_src=twsrc^tfw GRNZ website - no help. https://www.thedogs.co.nz/Home.aspx The newest posting on the Club's websites news section was 20 months ago. http://southlandgreyhounds.co.nz/news/ However, the TAB is more than willing to accept uninformed punts. https://www.tab.co.nz/racing/#2016-04-19-m3-r1 GONSTA and Ashoka
