crustyngrizzly 1,701 Report post Posted December 31, 2015 Howard Davis jr ,gold medal winner in the lightweight boxing division at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal has died at the age of 59 from lung cancer despite having never smoked or drank. He was also awarded the Val Barker Trophy for the Outstanding Boxer at the games. Also in the usa team were Sugar Ray Leonard and Leon and Michael Spinks. Just to get in the USA team he had to defeat Hilmer Kenty,Thomas Hearns and Aaron Pryor all who would go on to have good proffessional boxing careers. Also 3 days before the Olympics his mother passed away. His record as a pro reads 36-6-1 He had 3 title fights ,2 at lightweight and 1 at super lightweight with all 3 ending in defeat.
