Centrofold 147 Report post Posted November 3, 2015 As an ardent admirer of this wonderful gelding, I hope he gets the best of care and makes a good recovery. Followed by the best retirement a human can offer a horse. He deserves the best. Best wishes Red Cadeaux. I will never forget your wonderful efforts in the Melbourne Cup and think you most certainly deserved to win one. gubellini, elbow, Brown Fox and 6 others
Lloyd Vivian 742 Report post Posted November 3, 2015 Yep - one of his 2nds should have been declared a dead-heat: it was ridiculous the lengths they went to to separate him and Bauer. A margin not visible to the naked eye is a dead-heat in my opinion. Especially after a two-mile race! Leggy 4,005 Report post Posted November 3, 2015 Red Cadeaux (GB) comfortable at Werribee Equine Centre 03 Nov 2015 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk The 2015 Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on Tuesday had a somber side when public favourite, the Ed Dunlop trained Red Cadeaux (GB), faltered around the 200m mark. The ten-year-old who has finished second in the Cup a remarkable three times was immediately taken to University of Melbourne Equine Centre at Werribee for surgery. Racing Victoria (RV) Veterinary Services issued an update later on Tuesday afternoon confirming that diagnostics undertaken on Red Cadeaux at the University of Melbourne Equine Centre at Werribee showed the horse has sustained a fracture to his medial sesamoid in his left fore fetlock. The horse is comfortable with his leg in a splint and the fracture is stable. Dr Chris Whitton from the University of Melbourne advised that the injury is not currently life threatening, however the horse will not race again. Dr Whitton stated that a plan to repair the injury is being formulated in consultation with other world-leading equine orthopaedic surgeons. He further advised that he is not planning to undertake surgery tonight noting that the horse is comfortable and that there are several options being considered to treat his injury. Trainer Ed Dunlop confirmed that Red Cadeaux would be retired and that the connections will be doing everything in their power to ensure that the horse makes a full recovery. Todamax101 533 Report post Posted November 4, 2015 http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing/WS44453/No-immediate-surgery-for-Red-Cadeaux "He says owner Ronald Arculli wants the best possible medical care for Red Cadeaux so he can live out the rest of his life in Australia at Living Legends when he recovers." Great to hear that not only is he okay, but he'll be there for everyone in Melbourne to see. Perhaps he could lead the cup out next year!
