Embattled Australian horse racing trainer Sam Kavanagh has been found guilty on all bar one of the 24 charges levelled against him in the long-running cobalt saga after Racing NSW stewards delivered their findings on Monday. Kavanagh either pleaded guilty or was found guilty in 23 of the 24 charges during the marathon inquiry - which commenced in June - and was triggered after Midsummer Sun returned illegal levels of caffeine and cobalt in his system after his successful Gosford Cup defence. The only charge he escaped was of administering or causing to administer caffeine to Midsummer Sun. Flemington Equine Clinic partner Dr Tom Brennan was found guilty on all 12 charges while practice manager Aaron Corby was found in the wrong in one of two charges. Harness racing identities Mitchell Butterfield (five charges) and John Camilleri (six) as well as Kavanagh's stablehand Michael O'Loughlin (four) were also found guilty. Submissions on penalty will be considered by the stewards panel on September 10. Ad Feedback - Sydney Morning Herald

Cunnamulla 73 Report post Posted August 31, 2015 I don't know about "pretty thick", it would be more accurate to say he's a cheating, lying, greedy, cruel, conniving scumbag with no regard for the welfare of animals. It's been reported in Australia that it wasn't only cobalt that fatboy Sam used, he also tried formaldehyle (the human embalming chemical) and xenon gas on his horses. Also another drug (the name escapes me) which hardens the bones but makes them more prone to breaking. It should be noted that poor Midsummer Sun died after breaking a leg in a barrier trial. If he gets off lightly with the racing authorities, then I hope the SPCA hammers him with every charge they possibly can. The damage done to the racing industry's image by this type is astronomical. biff 2,158 Report post Posted August 31, 2015 Yep, agree with you, he's thick to the extent he thinks we are all stupid, or the fact he wouldn't get caught.....he's not interested in horses welfare.......he would be living off his savings, I hope he ends up busking or begging, cos even Macca's wouldn't have him, or Burger King, or Subway etc
